endgame | where it all starts

"hey I'm flora, nice to meet you, i-" I got cut of by alby saying he needed to go talk to the slicers about something and that left me a newt to finish the tour. he explained all the jobs to me builders who helped build stuff around the maze the keeper was gally the boy with funny eyebrows, then frypan is the keeper of the kitchen, Jeff is the keeper of the med- Jack's, Winston the keeper of the slicers.. i felt nauseous just thinking about the slicers I really hoped I wouldn't get that job..

then there was runners..
i was curious what he ment "what's a runner?" I asked newt he pointed to a big opening in the walls surrounding us and said "in there...that's the maze, minho is the keeper of the runners", he pointed at a jacked Asian guy with perfectly styled hair running out of the maze with a young boy newt said was called Ben.

"what are they doing in the maze?" I watched minho and Ben run past us to get food but just as they were passing minho called out to newt..

"newt new greenie huh?" newt nodded "yep she was a bit late so I've gotta do the tour this time" the boys laughed slightly and then newt began explaining the maze to me again.."everyday when those doors open the runners go into the maze, running it.. mapping it to try to find a way out of this maze.." I was curious about what was in the maze and went to walk closer to it. Newt freaked out for a bit then grabbed my arm..

tingles grew up my arm and I noticed newts face turning red

"uh sorry.." he rubbed the back of his head then went back to being dead serious.." we have 3 rules in this maze.. 1. do your part and work hard, 2. never hurt another glader.. and 3. never ever go into the maze it's a dangerous place.."

newt finished my tour around the glade when frypan rang the bell to let the whole glade know it was time for dinner. "perfect timing" newt said, we locked eyes for a moment then he took me to get some dinner. We walked over to frypan who was handing out food and he passed me a plate full of meat and veg. "Thanks fry" I nodded at him and walked away with newt to a bench where the runner minho was sitting.

I sat down next to newt and started eating. "Hey greenie, I'm I'm keeper of the runners, do you remember you're name?"
newt had explained earlier not all greenies knew there name at first as was shocked to find out I knew mine. "Yes I'm flora, why does everyone keep calling me greenie what is a greenie?" minho and newt chuckled at that "classic greenie" minho whispered to himself yet loud enough for us to hear, " everyone month the box sends up a new arrival aswell as fresh supplies, this month that's you congrats" we spoke and laughed over dinner and me minho and newt became good friends.

we later had a bonfire it's a tradition they do once a month everytime there's a new greenie. I sat down with newt watching gally wrestling some other gladers he hadn't been beaten yet.. guess you could say he was a glade champion. Newt then passed me a drink in a jar, it weirdly looked like pee and I was confused.." here put some hair on ya chest" I took a sip of the drink and it turned out to be super bitter and burner my throat I coughed a newt laughed at me.

coughing I asked "awhh what.. is this?" laughing still newt said "I'm not actually sure it's gallys secret recipe makes it every bonfire" "it's a bit bitter don't you think" we both laughed at this.

some time had passed and I started to get tired newt noticed and said he would show we where to sleep, I told him I knew where the homestead was and I would take myself over.." you're not sleeping in the homestead flo, you can sleep in my hut with me ill sleep on the floor" what newt had said was stupid he would hurt his back for sure " no way am I sleeping in your bed whilst you lay on the floor newt I couldn't watch that" he scoffed sarcastically.. "it'll be fine come on greenie.."

We walked over to his hut and I realized I didn't have a change of clothes. "Uh newt.." he looked up at me whilst preparing an air mattress on the floor near the bed "what's up, is this making you uncomfortable I can totally go sleep in the homestead if you want ,I just didn't want you to feel scared being the only girl and and you-" I cut him off with a chuckle , "they didn't send me up any spare clothes I don't wanna wear these dirty clothes in your bed" I explained as normally as I could without sounding weird. "ahh you couldve just said that flora."

He walked over to his closet and got me out a black long sleeve and some grey sweatpants and layer them down on the bed, "Their you go..uhh ill go get extra bedding and you can uhh change!" we both went a bit red in the face then newt left to get some bedding for his air mattress, which I still felt really bad about it didn't look comfy at all. I got changed into newts clothes and noticed they smelt just like him, he smelt of vanilla and I put the clothes on and put my hair in a loose low braid to go to sleep in.

Not long after newt knocked on the hut door, "are you done yet flo?" I jumped at the sudden knock but calmest down when I heard his amazing British accent it was the only one like it in the maze apart for me and a few other gladers I hadn't really spoke to. "uh yes you can come in." he walked into the room with his bedding and more or gallys drink and put his stuff down, newt looked me up and down and said "you look amazing in my clothes flo" I blushed hard hoping he wouldn't notice especially since it was dark, "thank you newt" we both got into bed and prepared to sleep.

I couldn't sleep too many thoughts going on in my head then out of nowhere a thought popped into my head

"newt.." he turned to look at me, I hoped he wouldn't be annoyed at me but he was the opposite quite loving and kind "yes love?"

omg he called me love...was it a mistake? did he call everyone love? did he even say that? was I imagining it all?

the corners of my mouth slightly curved and I then asked newt my question..." what do I look like, cause there aren't any mirrors here and I don't remember anything from before the glade" newt chuckled giving me a sweet look with his dark brown eyes. "Well.." he began.. "you have dark blonde hair that goes just below your shoulders, beautiful amber eyes and a few freckles if I look close enough.. ur not bad looking flo"

my heart was pounding but in a good way.. why was I feeling this way for him we only just met but he was so loving...and he called me love..

i smiled giving him a look that said thank you and he nodded we both then turned over and fell asleep after a while, it was a crazy first day and I'm sure newt was tired from looking out for me all day long, plus when alby was busy gally got into a fight and had to be put in the pit only for overnight, the pit is like a jail cell made of bamboo and its underground a bit.

And just like that my first day in the glade was over and although I acted happy infront of them all deep down I was hurting...
