After pressing several gentle kisses to their slumbering girlfriend's cheek and lips, Kai placed their arm around Amelia gently, nestling their head just inches from the brunette's neck, and closed their eyes.

Everyone was refreshed after the weekend. Both Maya and Carina were eager to see their girls, while Sarah and Lucia were ecstatic to see their moms. Moose was indifferent, as he'd been spoiled all weekend by Vic and Andy, who thanked the two women for their generosity.

Life went back to its regular course, with the clinic work continuing, the girls at school, and Maya's role as the captain of station nineteen was as unpredictable as ever. On Friday evening of that week, Sarah dove deep into her homework in balancing chemical equations when she heard her name being called.

"In a minute! Let me finish this question!" she replied, but the calling didn't stop, so the teen closed her textbook with a sigh.

No use in continuing chemistry when she was clearly needed somewhere else. The teen marched off to the kitchen, stopping once to pick the cat up and rest him on her shoulders. The redhead greeted her moms, who looked serious, and her expression fell nearly instantly.

"What happened?" Sarah asked nervously, her heart quickening as she began to panic.

"First, I need you to take a deep breath. You're okay," Maya soothed, and coached her eldest through deep breaths.

"Rosa emailed us. Everything is all ready for the charges to be laid out, all we are waiting for is your word. We want you to let us know when you're ready for the ball to be put in motion," Carina explained, and understanding swept over Sarah. Their lawyer, Annie, had set up the lawsuit against the police department for covering up the murder of the Griffin family, and charges specifically against Michael and Colin for sexually assaulting Sarah.

It would be a groundbreaking case, that despite either result, would change the course of their lives forever.

"Do it. I'm ready," Sarah replied with a shrug, and Maya frowned at the impassive response that her daughter gave. "You can take some time to consider it-"

"No, I'm ready. I'm ready for those monsters to pay for what they've done to me, and for what they've done to my parents and sister. I'm ready for them to rot in hell, and I'm excited to watch," Sarah spat.

There was a moment of silence, and Maya nodded in agreement. "Well then, I'll go send the email," she said, pulling out her phone and messaging their lawyer. Carina held her eldest's hand in support while they waited, and the blonde looked up after they heard the notification that it had sent.

"I promise, they're going to pay," Carina stated firmly, and they all nodded.

The next day, they saw the shock and gravity of the case. Annie and Rosa called shortly after the email was sent, and they warned the family that due to the weight this case carried, big changes would most likely have to be made to their lives.

Carina and Maya took notes of their advice and recommendations, and afterwards, had a family meeting to discuss what they wanted to do.

After said meeting, Sarah reached out to her teachers, letting them know that she would be homeschooling during the duration of the case. It felt like too much to go out to school, with nosy, gossiping teenagers, and have them make comments.

Her teachers were more than willing to send her copies of the work they were doing, and luckily, Mister Roberts, her soccer coach and teacher, was more than willing to stop by if and when Sarah needed some in person help on her school work.
