Carter and Amber return to Lilac Valley to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with Mrs. Li.
While eating their mooncakes, Carter asks, "How are things here?"
"Shouldn't you know?" his mom asks. "You're the Secretary of Magic. Your best friend is the captain at the precinct."
"So no change?" Carter asks. His mom shakes her head.
"Let me get the lanterns," Mrs. Li says and leaves the table.
"Nothing," Carter says. "It's too quiet. Your father and sister must've masked their scent or Con and Clari would've found them by now."
"And the shield?" Amber asks.
"No word yet," Carter says. "One of Isabella's grandchildren might know something, but she's only eighteen. That's too much responsibility. This isn't Harry Potter. Let's leave it to the adults."
