BONNIE HAD BEEN unconscious in Sirius's bed for three days. Her breaths were ragged, uneven, and sometimes not there at all. It was a waiting game for the Gryffindors and Potter parents.

The children all returned to their home that night after Dumbledore left, but all were watching their backs. Lily worried the most about being attacked because of her blood, but the Marauders had reassured the girl that they would be checking on each other every day. Only Sirius and James were left at the Potter home, both men waiting on either side of Bonnie's sleeping form.

Sirius barely ate, slept, and showered, fearing he'd miss any sign of life. When James continued to prod for the boy to go, Sirius grew angry. Why was James so worried about Bonnie all of a sudden? Why were they seemingly more close on the last day? Why did Dumbledore want to speak to Lily, Remus, and James alone? Why did Sirius feel this burning anger for his best mate?

"James, I already said I'm not leaving her," Sirius growled out, running a quick hand through his hair in frustration.

"But I think you'll feel better—"

"I'm not sure what the hell happened between you and Bonnie on the last day of term, but you won't kick me out just so you can have some moment when she wakes up!" Sirius yelled. "I'm not leaving her."

James stared at his best mate in amusement, Sirius glaring hatefully toward him. Finally, he laughed. Sirius mumbled, "There's nothing funny."

Jealousy. That's what Sirius felt.

James smirked again. "Yes, there is."

"Enlighten me," Sirius drawled, eyes trained on Bonnie's face, longing for movement.

"Do you want to know what happened that day?" James asked, amusement dancing in his eyes. Sirius hummed as if he didn't care, but Godric, he cared so much. "Minnie sent me to find little Bonnie when I went to retrieve my wand, and I remembered you saying she was in the Astronomy Tower. When I got there, she was crying. For what? I'm not the one to tell you; though, a part of it was because she was going home. I tried to calm her down, but soon, she was having a full-blown anxiety attack. You know Remus is best when it comes to being calm, and I panicked. Everything I said made it worse, so I did what I thought would calm her."

"Which was?" Sirius forced out, hating to hear how distraught she was that day, and he had no idea.

"I kissed her."

Sirius clenched his fist. He knew it was coming, somehow, but it didn't make it hurt any worse.

"Sirius?" James called, still smiling. "She didn't kiss me back, nor did either of us enjoy it the way you're thinking. I did it simply to make her focus on me and not the stupid thoughts in her head... Anyway, you know I can't get over Lily, even if I've accepted she'll never like me back."

Sirius nodded, but he still hated the idea of anyone touching or kissing her without consent. He knew James was trying to do good, but for a moment, he wondered if Bonnie was scared when James forced a kiss on her. He shook his head to rid the thoughts. "So, what? Have either of you brought it up? Was she mad?"

"No. We both knew it wasn't a kiss of love or anything. I just care too damn much about her, and well, I'd do anything to see her happy. Watching her panic made me panic. She wasn't mad, just surprised," James said, grabbing one of Bonnie's hands and giving it a squeeze. "I can't wait till she wakes up."

"Me either," Sirius mumbled, feeling stupid for yelling at his mate and allowing his jealousy to override any rational thoughts.

James watched Sirius play with a strand of Bonnie's hair. "You love her."
