I stepped into the car, so unsure about everything. Being underground wasn't the best for me, and I let those thoughts run in my mind.

I quickly sat down before anyone else could, clutching my purse tighter against me. I took out my phone to make sure it was still there, hoping I would have service in the tunnels of the underground if, or when, we crashed.

The seat underneath me made a noise, signaling that someone had sat down right next to me. Just then, the doors closed with a puff of air, and the jolt of its movement shoved me into the person to my right unexpectedly.

"Oi!" he exclaimed, and I quickly turned to look at him and backed off. He looked at me with a slightly annoyed expression, but he looked like someone I would be friends with.

After finishing my thought and telling myself to focus, I inhaled quickly.

"Sorry," I apologized, turning away again. Once the speed got to me, I felt my stomach flip, suddenly thinking about what would happen if the ground above us collapsed.

I squeezed my eyes shut, clenching my fists and accidentally letting out a squeak.

"Uh," I heard the guy kind of chuckle beside me. I brought my knees up to my chest, burying my face in between my legs.

"Are you okay?" he spoke up again. I forced myself to open my eyes, glancing at him.

"Y-yeah," I tried to shrug, blinking when more light flooded through the windows as we stopped at the next station. I let out a relieved breath, but it didn't last long. I saw that my destination was three more stops away, letting the dread set in.

It's not like I had a death wish, I just didn't have a car. I hated underground, so nothing was helping.

"Are you afraid of trains or . . ?" the guy beside me wondered as more people boarded.

"Trains, underground, the ceiling collapsing in," I listed, sighing. "Yeah." He nodded quickly.

"I'm sorry," he said as more of an afterthought. I looked away, caught off guard once again when we departed. I fell into his side for the second time, but that time I was slower in getting up, so when he pulled me back down against him, I hadn't been that far away.

"You can stay here, since you obviously like it," he said teasingly, and I breathed quickly with his heartbeat. I spoke no more words, oddly comfortable leaning on his chest.

When my stop came, we both stood off, both stepping out of the door.

"Did that help?" I stared over at him, more at home on solid ground. We were still underground, but I wasn't about to be thrusted through the tunnel.

"Actually," I smiled to myself. "It did." I caught a glimpse of him smiling, too.

"Thank you," he breathed out, and I furrowed my eyebrows at him as we walked up the many steps into fresh air.

"For what?" He cleared his voice, stepping in front of me and stopping my advance.

"I was terrified, too," he chuckled.
