We didn't say a word once in the car. I droves but even though I was watching the road, I could see how much this was effecting Michael. He looked out the window and his mind was occupied.

We stopped at some traffic lights so I had an opportunity to comfort him. I took his hand in mine and rubbed the back of it with my thumb.

"What did they say on the phone?" I spoke softly.

"There's been complications... We need to get there in case it has to be an emergency delivery..." He looked to me with tears in his eyes. "What if we loose it?"

"We'll be ok. We have each other and nothing will change that. The doctors will do all they can and I'm sure that our baby will be ok" I reassured.

We pulled into the hospital, parked up and entered the building where e found Steph, Katie's girlfriend. She showed us to Katie's room.

She lay asleep while doctors and nurses came in and out. They did multiple checks and tests but Steph managed to stay by her side through it all. Michael and I sat at the side and watched helplessly.

No one explained what was happening but I'm not sure that Steph and Katie even knew. Hours passed before we were told an extremely brief answer.

"We've had some problems with the baby. I can't promise anything for the time being but me and my team will the best we can to give you a healthy baby; wether it's now or nearer the due date. The test results will be here in a while so feel free to get something to eat while you wait." The midwife told us.

Michael tightened his grip on my hand before resting his head on my shoulder.

Needless to say, we were too nervous to eat. It had only been a few hours since dinner and the call so we were ok though we needed to get out of the room for a bit. We ended up going to the café to get drinks.

Comforting one another, we drank out tea. Michael's brown hair lay limp in his forehead from the amount of times he had fiddled with it. When he was stressed, he would run his hands threw his hair and slowly end up taking out the gel causing his hair to become messy.

Steph joined us after a few minutes to get some food for her and Katie before the three of us went back up to the room.

Katie was now sitting up in the bed. She looked stressed but as soon as she saw Steph, her expression softened and she smiled as they kissed.

Their relationship was so similar to Michael's and mine. The way they acted when together and the way they looked at one another... You could see the love. That's what Michael and I are like. The only easy way to describe it is full of love.

The midwife re-entered the quiet room with a smile. She looked at all four of us as she spoke. "I have the test results and I'm pleased to say that your baby is healthy. Sometimes things go wrong with the mother and that's what happened today but Katie will just need to stay here for tonight so we can keep an eye on her and it will all be ok."

Michael smiled he widest he had smiled since we got married. His eyes sparkled with new found hope and indescribable joy. He repeatedly thanked the midwife like a dog greets its owner. It was quite funny.

We were back at the house by midnight so we went straight to bed, finally feeling tired after the relief of the news. My mind was at rest from a long day.
