Abeyance

Sometimes you sit on the windowsill
staring at the leaves drift in wind
and watching the walkers waft by.
You don't say much with your mouth
but your language is strong enough
to savor on the tips of your tongue.
You wonder whether your words feign
or whether they genuinely relate
and touch anyone who reads your brain.
Just as the pedestrians wander about
traversing from one end to the other,
you communicate unsure of destination
hoping to dispel your disarming doubt
and behind the barrier glass find cover.
Yet you never utter a word while there
simply choosing to unfocus your stare
while you look at the roads that meet
without knowing if they hold meaning.
You watch the leaves drift in wind
hoping that if you speak to them
maybe they might hear and listen.
But all the same you go on speaking
while your mouth remains in abeyance.
