The World Will End

When the lights go out
and the sounds of children laughing
          cease to fill the air.

When the winds pick up
and tears rain down on the earth
         like waves in the ocean.

When the darkness disappears
and leaves behind only void and wanting
         and nothingness.

When the dreams of my youth
    contained in my pumping heart
         are torn asunder.

When my thoughts of you
    are no longer true,
         the world will end.

And I will be
    too far gone
         to notice.
