If You Were Mine

If you were mine
I wouldn't tell you that you are beautiful everyday
I wouldn't tell you that you are perfect
I wouldn't say there was nothing you could do
or that there was nothing to improve

If you were mine
I would point out the times you failed to be right
I would tell you where all your flaws reside
I would show you that failure is no surprise
when you just give up and cry

If you were mine
I wouldn't agree with you every time
I wouldn't shower you in gifts every Tuesday night
I wouldn't solve all your problems
or provide you with endless solace

If you were mine
I would be honest and true
I would be courteous and attempt the pas de deux
I would be compassionate
but not a sychophant

If you were mine
I would help you bloom with my every last fume
to ensure that you become the best of you
and I would love you
until I am laid to rest in my final tomb.
