Chapter 87

“Unfortunately Sai... I’ll be having my clone stand guard over you here,” Captain Yamato said.

“Now it’s back to square one... We’re going to save Sasuke!,” Naruto said.

Sai looked to a side. “I wouldn’t bother. I... met Sasuke,” Sai revealed. Sakura and Naruto reacted as I showed my surprised.

“Sasuke always has Orochimaru with him,” Sai said.

“Huh? So, he has become Orochimaru’s pet now,” I commented, letting my disdain showed.

“That is to say, you’ll have to fight Orochimaru once again. You’ll end up being chopped up into pieces... and turned into a test subject if you pursue recklessly. And...,” Sai trailed off.

“And what?!,” Naruto asked. Sai looked up at Naruto.

“Sasuke said he doesn’t care about you... Sakura said you think of him like a  brother. And yet...,” Sai said.

‘Do not say anything Y/n. Hold your tongue. Don’t say anything. You should know better than to start a fight with these two. Don’t say anything’ I did my best to hold my tongue before I said something tactless to Naruto and Sakura.

“For a guy like that, why...? Why are you trying to get him back... going as far as to oppose Orochimaru and put your life at risk? Why is that? When nobody’s ordering you to do so?,” Sai asked.

‘You tell him Sai! I swear I couldn’t thank you enough right now!’ I thought.

I looked at Naruto after seeing Sai’s eyes widen to find Naruto smiling. “I used to really hate Sasuke. Even though, like me, he didn’t have a family... he was elite and I was always at the bottom. But it was actually fun being with him. He... He’s the person who acknowledged me... more than anyone else. Sasuke... is my friend. It’s a special bond I was finally able to make,” Naruto said.

I clenched my fist. Anger and annoyed. For what reason? I didn’t know. I didn’t understand. Maybe it was because of what Naruto said them sharing a special. Maybe I was being jealous of Sasuke. Maybe it was because I felt this way. Maybe it was all those reasons combined.

“A bond. Even so... Even so, with Orochimaru as your opponent...,” Sai looked down at the ground.

“It doesn’t matter who the opponent is! If my arms get town off, I’ll kick him down. If my legs get torn off, I’ll bite him down. If my head gets torn off, I’ll stare him down. If my eyes get torn out, I’ll curse him in my grave! Even if I get chopped up into pieces... I’ll take Sasuke back from Orochimaru!,” Naruto said.

I stared at Naruto not sure what to do in face of his resolve. I still hate Sasuke for what he did back then and I won’t forgive him. But seeing Naruto’s resolve was making me unsure if I should stay angry or help these idiot to bring Sasuke back for their sakes.

“We’ll go after I create the guard,” Captain said but we quickly jumped away as kunai came raining down.

After the kunai stopped, a figure appeared before us, crouching in front of Sai. “I thought we’d completely given our pursuers the slip... I guess I should say... I’d expect no less from Lord Orochimaru’s test subject...,” Kabuto said.

“You’re sure persistent!,” Sakura said.

“Sai... Judging from your condition, it appears you've been captured,” Kabuto glanced back at Sai.

“Don’t interfere. If you do... I won’t go easy on you!,” Naruto said.

Kabuto invaded Naruto’s attack, “It’s futile.”
