A/N Just something about Mick's quali yesterday. And yes, he actually said the sentence with the cake in an interview. What are your predictions for the race later?

My fingers are crossed for Mick in this qualifying for the FrenchGP and I really hope he is going to be able to set a good time and bring himself in a decent position for tomorrows race. The qualification starts with a bang when the rookie Yuki Tsunoda crashes and the session is red flagged.

When the cars are out again Mick is able to set a quite fast time which puts him into the top 15. The time is ticking and with only 30 seconds remaining Mick is still on P14 which would be a sensation for the Haas team. Yes, other drives are still on a fast lap but with a bit of luck Mick could remain on this position.

"Double yellow in sector 3 and this could help Mick Schumacher to get into Q2." The commentary says before the camera switches and reveals the white Haas with the number 47 in the wall.

"Well, it is Schumacher himself in the wall and the session is red flagged for another time. Looks like he is in Q2 but will not participate in it. Still a good result for the young German driver. Hopefully, his gearbox is not damaged from the impact, and he is actually going to start from this position." The commentary continues but I am not really listening to him anymore.

My feelings are mixed. I am devasted that Mick crashed but I am also really happy that he had a good lap and showed his potential. And for the moment the happiness about his pace and the time he sets predominate.

Patiently I wait for Mick to return to his driver room while watching the qualifying more or less attentive. The TV shows Mick, still with his helmet on, and I sight softly he is probably beating himself up about what just happened and is not happy at all. Still, I jump up when he comes to the door and will shower him in my happiness.

"P15 Mick!" I exclaim happily and wrap my arms around his neck to embrace him in a tight hug. Mick does not really hug me back just loosely place his hands on my hips and waits patiently for me to let go of his body.

"You are not happy?" I ask him and finally look in his face where I can see mixed emotions. He seems to wrestle with himself if he is happy or not.

"I crashed." He huffs and throws himself onto the little couch in the room before he starts to fiddle with his fingers.

"Yes, but your time before the crash was really good and put you into Q2." I mutter and let my body sink near his to show him I am there for him.

"Still, it feels not right to get P15 because of a crash." He continues with the bad facts without seeing what he has archived with the car which is the most difficult to drive on the grid.

"You can be proud of yourself." I reassure him and entwine our fingers. Mick sights softly before he lifts my fingers and presses a gentle kiss onto my knuckles.

"I am proud, but it feels like getting a cake and not be allowed to eat it!" He exclaims and throws his free hand up before he let it sink into his lap.

"Yes, Q2 is great but I didn't even get the chance to drive in it. So, it feels bittersweet to me." Mick explains his feelings and let his head fall back, being annoyed of himself for the mistake he made at the end of Q1.

"Nevertheless, you put that tractor of yours onto 15th place which is great. And tomorrow you show everyone that you deserve this place and maybe with some chaos you can gain one or two positions." I mumble and show him a light grin.

"Stop calling my car a tractor." Mick says but can't supress the grin because deep down he thinks it is funny. Comforting he wraps his arms around me and places his head on top of mine to cuddle a but closer.

Relaxing I close my eyes and just enjoy being close to him for some time before he has to go into the debrief and be a racing driver again. But for a moment there are just the two of us and this is what counts.
