People say I'll understand when I'm older.
When I've lived a little longer.
They won't listen to me when I give a valid point,
Saying I don't know what I'm talking about because I'm not as old as them,
Or not as "respected"
Or just because they don't want to listen to me.
Yes,
I am young.
But just because I am young does not mean I do not understand.
I understand that we have killed each other over petty disagreements.
Those disagreements started wars that have killed millions.
Innocent lives were lost.
All because no one could compromise.
No one believes that people my age understand far more than older generations realize.
The old generations do not care about what the new generations have to say.
It won't change.
Yes,
People are different.
They act different,
Look different from each other.
WHAT DOES IT MATTER?
People are different for a reason.
I may not know that reason,
But I do know that when you persecute a people just because of the difference,
Rebellion is inevitable.
People demand change
In a world that denies it to them.
All because of a difference that should not matter.
Audre Lorde once said, "It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences."
