"All rise."
The one thing said every time you open in court and the judge walks in.
It is a precedent and a tradition.
Though now also the name of a show,
"All rise" will be remembered as a saying across generations.
What the courts do—
The laws they make,
Precedents they set,
The cases they see on a daily basis.
"All rise" will be heard in all of these instances.
It will be the ringing beginning
To each changing age.
Those two words will be heard around the world.
"All rise" will be heard within each change.
"All rise" will be heard within each age.
If we "all rise,"
So to speak,
We will be able to create a world
Where people are able to live
Safely and happily
Without fear of someone else harming or killing them
Just out of hate.
So now I say to you,
Let us all help one another to achieve that goal.
The only thing left to say now,
I think is simply
"All rise."
Ruth Bador Ginsburg, "Nor does the word 'freedom,' Your Honor."
