Chapter 170: Nothing but surprises

Start from the beginning

It had taken me so long to figure out my thoughts that the food was already done. Yamada said as he sat a plate of food in front of me, "Well, you don't have to worry about any of that since you do- in a way- have a family now." I looked to him with a confused expression, which he then added with a smile, "We're sort of fostering you now."

My expression of confusion instantly changed to the world's most expressionless face ever. I slowly looked down to my plate and began a staring contest with the void that took its place. Yamada walked back to the kitchen and came back with two plates, one for himself while the other was for Aizawa. They then began to eat while I got lost in thought and the void of nothingness.

'How am I supposed to respond to that!?'

Just don't say anything that would make them regret it.

'Yeah, but I need advice on what words to put together!'

I don't know, that's your problem.

'Yeah, obviously...but why...how...how did I not know? I mean, doesn't someone have to check out a household to make sure that they're fit to foster someone?'

Yeah, but who knows how things are now.

'True, but I thought that my name was removed from the system.'

Well if you did, then so did I.

'Just...how did I not know about this? I'm not mad...I'm just...'

Shocked? Yeah, me too.

'Yeah, I don't know how to react.'

Well, right about now you look like you just died at the diner table. You're staring at your food as though you don't like it.

'I would eat, but I can't seem to process this right now. Who knows, maybe I can't keep my food down because of the shock.'

What the hell can't you process? Pretty much nothing will change, all that will is what status you're in and as if that matters.

'I know, but I don't think that I've ever heard someone say that. I never imagined that I would be told that.'

Yeah, neither did I, you worthless piece of shit.

"Y/N? Aren't you going to eat?" Yamada asks. In the blink of an eye, I teleported the food to my stomach at the same time that I mashed it up so it'd be easier to digest. Within a split second, I had nothing left on my plate. "Where did it all go?" he asked in a tone that made it sound like I did something crazy. I didn't respond or move. "Did you eat it?" I nodded my head.

"Look what you did," Aizawa said, "she's in shock. She can't even react normally."

I kept on going through my thoughts while they ate. When they finished, Yamada cleaned the table and did the dishes while Aizawa went back to the sofa. When he finished doing the dishes, he joined Aizawa on the sofa. After another good ten minutes, I turned around in the chair and rested my arm on the back of it.

'So, what should I actually say?'

I don't fucking know! Just say something and don't fuck it up.

'Alright, I got this! I'll say something like, "I don't know what to say" or "I don't know how to thank you" or what?'

Good enough for me.

'Okay...okay...I got this. I got this!'

I then spoke up, "Are you guys out of your mind?!"

Since it was so sudden and out of the blue, Aizawa busted out laughing while Yamada asked him, "Are we out of our mind?"

Once Aizawa calmed down, he said, "I dunno, maybe we are if that's her reaction after how many minutes of you telling her."

I tried to say, "Well, I ju-just don't know w-what to s-say or how to r-react."

"You don't have to say anything."

"I'm conf-fused though. Is-sn't th-there supposed to b-be someone who comes and sees if th-the place is f-fit and other th-things?" I asked.

"Yeah, but you forgot that I've done this sort of thing before; not to mention that they're doing something different." Aizawa said, which I just nodded my head. "Sorry it took so long, we tried to figure out a plan and it somehow figured to fit in right about now."

I stood up from the chair, they both looked to me as if I was angry. I asked, "H-how long have I been..."

"About a month?" Yamada said, thinking of it as he said it.

"A little over a month." Aizawa said.

I began to walk towards the entryway, "W-well, I guess w-we both have a s-surprise."

"Are you angry?" he asked.

Just as I entered the little hallway, I said, "Nope." then went up to my room and grabbed the directional speaker that I had generated earlier in the afternoon. Once I was standing behind the sofa, I said, "Alright, Yamada, c-close your eyes." When he did, I walked around the sofa as I carried the slightly heavy speaker. Once Aizawa saw it, he didn't say anything, just gave me a 'holy crap, Y/N' look. I began to smile as I said, "Okay, y-you can open them now."

When he opened his eyes, he instantly began to smile. As he took it from me, he asked, "Holy crap, Y/N, how did you get it so fast?"

I still wore the smile as I said, "I have my sources."

Aizawa mumbled, "Yeah, I'm sure I know those sources too."

"Now I don't know what to say! I was going to fill out a form for another one tomorrow, but I knew that it was going to take over a couple months to get it." Yamada said happily.

"I hope it works like the old one." I said.

"I'm sure it's going to be better!" he said, "A thousand times thank you!"

"No problem." I replied.

Aizawa then asked, "So, where's my surprise?"

Just then Melody jumped on the back of the sofa and onto his lap. "Right there." I said with a smile.

He huffed as he began to pet Melody and said, "I'll take it."

As he's still inspecting the speaker, he says, "I thought that you were going to freak me out with some bug or something. I would have died!"

I chuckled, "Trust me, I would have died too."

Aizawa scoffed, "Found that out when we went on that class trip."

"You don't like bugs either?"

I shook my head, "Nope, I hate them with a passion."

He looked to Aizawa, "Well then, seems like you're the only one around here to take care of a spider when one appears."

"Yeah yeah." he said under his breath as he still was petting Melody.

I said, "Well then, I'll be in my room if you need me."

As I began to walk away, Yamada said again, "Thank you!"

"No problem." I said over my shoulder.

I then went up to my room. When I made it to the up stairs railing, I saw that Yamada was trying on the directional speaker. From how he looked, he looked satisfied with it. I smiled as I walked back into my room and stayed there for the rest of the night, primarily because I went to bed pretty much as soon as I went into my room.
