Just as I was going to get a grip on the door handle, it slid open and Toshi walked in, nearly trampling over me in the process. Since he startled and ran into me, I fell on the ground. I sat there as I clutched my side where the bandage was covering the gunshot wound.
He helped me up as he said, "I'm sorry! I didn't know you were there!"
With a little bit of pain in my voice, I said, "It's okay." He was going to bring me to my bed, but I said before I could get in, "I'd rather sit in the wheelchair than go back in bed." He then brought the wheelchair closer as I leaned against the bed. Once it was close enough I fell into the chair and sat there. "You can sit on the sofa over there; it'd be more comfortable." He then walked over to the sofa while I followed behind him in the wheelchair.
"How have you been? Have you got your quirks back?" he asked.
I looked over to the remote that was on the table by the bed and floated it quickly towards myself. "I did, but I can't use them for too long or ones that use a great amount of energy." I said as I waved the remote around in hand.
"I see...how long do you think it'd take to get them back completely?"
I looked down as I tried to estimate an amount of time. "I'm not sure. Since I have a lot and a good amount of them are pretty strong, I think that it may take a week or two."
Trying to sound positive, he said, "Better than it taking a month or two."
"True; I just hope that nothing pops up and I'm called in." I said before asking, "Do you know where Yamada and Aizawa are?"
"I think they were going to go back to their apartment to grab you some things? They stopped by my room to see how I was doing first." he responded.
I nodded my head in acknowledgement before asking, "About how long ago was that?"
"I left for here as soon as they left, so not too long ago." Toshinori answered.
"So how-" I was cut off by the door opening and a nurse walking in.
The nurse walked towards us with a friendly smile before stopping and saying to Toshi, "If you'll please come with me, we'd like to take a look at your arm. If it looks good you'll be able to go home today."
He then stood up and walked past me towards the nurse. "See you later." I said as he followed the nurse.
"Yeah, and stay here in your room until Aizawa and Hizashi get back." He said in an ordering tone.
I sighed, "I suppose..."
The door then closed and I was left alone with nothing to do. I looked out through the cracked glass as I watched the people below. I got bored shortly later and started to get up. Once I was up, I fell towards the wall and held on for dear life as I started for the door. Just as I was going to put my hand on the door handle to open it, there was a knock before it slid open.
'Again? Man, how many visitors am I going to have today?'
Once it was open all the way, I saw that it was Midoriya.
"Hey, what's up?" I asked as I took a wobbly step back.
Midoriya quickly took a step forward and put his hand out as if he was going to catch me from falling backwards. "Need help?"
"Nah, I got this. Please, come in, have a seat on the sofa." I said as I hobbled slowly to the wall. It took me a minute or two to make it back to the wheelchair. Once I sat down and caught my breath, I asked again, "What's up?"
"I'm sorry that I got in the way of things and got you injured." He said in a serious, apologetic tone, cutting straight to the chase.
I tried to smile to show that everything was alright, "You don't need to be sorry. I was doing what I knew was right."
"You could have pushed me out of the way or teleported both of us out of the way of the bullet...or just let me take it." He said looking down at the small bundle of flowers he was holding on his lap.
I stood up and looked at him with a dead serious expression. "I knew that I wouldn't have been able to teleport both of us cause as soon as you hear a gun fire, it's almost always in an instant that the bullet hits its target right after; not to mention that it was pretty much at point blank." I took an unsteady step towards him as he just watched with tears welling up in his eyes. "I am more than happy to have taken the hit."
As soon as I said that he started to cry. In between sniffles he said, "Why? You were unconscious for two weeks or something like that. How could you possibly be happy?"
I took a few more unsteady steps towards him as I allowed my face to soften from the stern look that I had earlier. I plopped down on the sofa next to him and rubbed his shoulder as I replied in a still serious tone, "I learned that the bullet was coated with poison and a substance that paralyzes a person's quirk for a while. It would have been bad if you took it. I'm sure you can figure it out since you've seen the shape that I was in."
He looked down as he rubbed the side of his face with his free hand as he said in a near whisper, "I could have died..." He then lifted his head and stopped touching his face as he said in a slightly loud tone with tears rolling down his cheeks, "You should have just let me take it! I could have died!"
"Midoriya...no..." I said in a whisper.
There was a pause before he wiped his tears on his sleeve before he looked to me, "We saved Kacchan."
Confused, I asked, "'We'?"
He nodded his head, "Yeah, Todoroki, Yaoyorozu, Kirishima, Iida, and I."
Worried for them, I asked, "Didn't you guys get in trouble?"
Sounding like he wasn't too sad anymore, he responded, "No...not really."
"That's good to hear." I said with a relieved smile.
"Oh!" He pushed the bouquet of flowers to me, "Here, these are for you. Everyone in the class chose a single flower for you, which then turned into this bouquet...sort of."
I took it and looked at them as I said, "Thank you very much." I then looked to him to tell him to say thanks to everyone else, but I noticed that he was looking at my arms. Nervously I asked, "What'cha looking at?"
"Your arms." he said quietly.
I sat the bundle of flowers on my lap and crossed my arms so then they would be less noticeable. "Yeah, sorry I'm not wearing sleeves, I kinda can't right now..." I tried to change the subject, "I'm supposed to be on an IV drip, but I'm stubborn and don't want to be confined to a bed for longer than what I have to."
"It's fine, Y/N...but I thought you were trying to stop." he said.
I looked to the flowers as I said, "I was trying-" I looked to Midoriya with a broken smile, "-but I seem to keep on losing."
He was about to start crying again as he said, "You're such a strong person, Y/N."
There was another knock at the door before it slid open slowly, revealing that Todoroki was with Midoriya. I then slowly stood up and plopped into the wheelchair, allowing Todoroki to take my spot and sit next to Midoriya. He walked in as he excused himself for barging in (as if he was) and stood next to me.
"Izuku, we should be leaving now." Todoroki said.
Midoriya stood up reluctantly, "I guess I have to go, Y/N." He took a few steps before stopping next to me, where Todoroki once stood, and said as he laid his hand on my shoulder, "Please, Y/N, get better very soon. I'm sorry that I had to cause you pain like that."
"Midoriya, it was not your fault. It was my choosing, and I'm happy that I chose it." I said, trying to make him believe the truth.
He just nodded his head as he started walking towards the door where Todoroki was waiting. He took Todoroki's hand and they left the room. After they left, I was no longer in the feeling of leaving my room since I already saw Toshinori, and I now didn't want to try to go to the roof for air. I sat there as I enjoyed the sweet, sweet silence.
