"We have to figure this out." I told him.

Mike nodded, and turned to go.

"And Mike," I replied quietly. He turned back to face me. "Thank you Brother. For looking out for her."

He grinned a little, and nodded again. "Of course man. I'll be in touch."

I nodded, and watched him jump to the ground, followed by the other guys. They all looked back and waved before taking off into the night. I sighed and turned, walking back inside.

I didn't make a sound as I walked to Chloe's bedroom. Her door was open, and I saw her lying in her bed, the blanket kicked down around her knees. She was the first thing I noticed, making my dead heart twist in on itself with the need to lie with her.

She was lying on her side, her hair spread out on the pillow, forming a sort of angelic blonde halo around her head. She was dressed in one of her favorite oversized band t-shirts, and a pair of those amazing little black shorts.

Jesus, how many did she own? I don't care, I wasn't complaining. They were quick becoming a favorite of mine.

There was a body pillow in her bed now, something that wasn't there before, and it was tucked in between her knees, with one arm thrown around it. She started muttering something as I came closer.

"S'not right." I heard her say.

I wanted to ask her what wasn't right, but I knew that I couldn't wake her. She'd probably start screaming bloody murder at me and freak out. I heard Prissy walk in the door behind me, and turned just as she pounced lightly onto the bed.

She walked gently up the body pillow, to Chloe's stomach and curled against her purring. I smiled at the sight. I looked around the room, noticing that things were definitely not the same in here either.

The pictures on the wall were different, just like they were in the living room. Her bed sheets and comforter were a slightly different color and pattern than they were before and her dresser was smaller and grey, instead of the black that she has at my place.

Who had done this? I knew the answer because it was obvious. Only the vamps that had been at my house knew that I was moving her in.

Elias knew. So this was done before he compelled her.

"M' scared." She whimpered out, drawing my attention away from the new brush and makeup that was scattered on her dresser.

Her face was scrunched up a little, and she let out a soft whimper. Seemed like another nightmare...so I did the only thing that I knew to do.

I caressed her arm softly, and whispered "It's okay baby girl. I'm here."

Her features relaxed instantly, and she cuddled her pillow closer to her, as a soft smile crossed those beautiful lips. Damn it, this was torture. She still needed me even though she didn't know who I was anymore.

That thought ripped another shot of pain in my chest. Maybe I could...it was worth a shot. I could always move fast enough that she wouldn't see me.

I slid in on the other side of the bed, and gently moved the top part of her body pillow down. Prissy stood, looking at me with indignation, and stalked to the foot of the bed. Sorry little girl, but I need to do this.

I picked up Chloe's arm and slid underneath it so that she was draped across me, instead of that pillow. She sighed in content and snuggled even closer, resting her head on my chest. The pain in my heart lessened with each breath I felt her take against me.

Times like this, I was glad she was such a heavy sleeper. I remembered telling her that she was, and she argued with me for ten minutes about how light of a sleeper she was. I missed arguing with her.

Tomorrow was when I would start trying to win her over again. Hopefully, I didn't make her hate me as much as she did when she first met me. I grinned at the memory.

It seemed like forever ago. I knew I would have to be out of here early, because she was going to her new job. I wished that I could share in her excitement about that.

I was looking forward to her telling me about her first day, and how much she enjoyed it. She didn't need to know that I had compelled her boss into giving her the job. She deserved it.

She had way more qualifications that any of the other applicants, and her work was good. What I had read of it anyways. I glanced at her laptop lying open on the table on her side of the bed.

The screen was already black, but I assumed that she had been writing. She was always writing. You would think that I would have gotten bored, just lying there with her head on my chest, her arm thrown around my waist, but I never did.

I hated to leave her when I saw the sky start to lighten up just a bit through her window. I sighed, and shifted gently out from under her, placing her head back down on her pillow. It was time for me to start trying to win her over.

I hadn't slept but after a night of lying with her after being terrified that I had lost her forever...I felt pretty good. Not tired at all. I was a man on a mission today.

I crept back out of her apartment and waited in my car for her to make her way to work. A couple of hours later, I was following her, a car behind, to her workplace. I parked my car in the shaded area that was beside the building and waited a little while for her to be in her office so that she didn't see me.

Deciding that enough time had passed, I checked my hair and got out of the car. I pulled at the bottom of my shirt, flipping it under, then pulling it back out. I was nervous.

Why the hell was I nervous?

"Man up Colby, what the fuck?" I muttered to myself, as I walked inside the receptionist area.
