"Thank you." I replied, as she passed it across the counter.

"You're welcome. You can have a seat and I'll let you know when Mr. Roberts can see you."

I nodded and smiled again, and made my way over to the white chair. My phone alerted me to a text, so I dug it out of my clutch purse, turning the ringer down before my meeting.

The text was from Colby wishing me luck at my interview, and telling me to wake him when I got home to let him know how it went. I wasn't going to do that. He needed to sleep. I could always tell him when he woke up.

If I got the job, this was seriously going to hinder the time that we were able to spend together, with him sleeping during the day, and me needing to sleep at night so that I could work. I sighed, already missing him.

"Miss Daniels." the receptionist called my name in her high, chipper voice.

I looked up, and met her sparkling blue gaze. Her eyes just made me think of Colby again.

Damn it.

"Mr. Roberts will see you now."

She motioned towards 2 intricately designed marble stained doors, with huge gold colored half circles on each side that met when the door was closed. I walked slowly to the door, apprehension growing in my belly. When I made it to the doors, I placed one hand on one of the gold colored half circles to pull it open, when I felt someone watching me.

My head jerked to, what was her name?

Lilly?

Lillian? Whatever, I'll learn it soon enough if I get the job. She wasn't looking at me though, so I glanced towards the glass doors.

Sure enough, Elias was standing there, staring in at me. His blonde hair wasn't visible with the dark snap back that he had on his head, his face covered by the large black shades over his eyes. He raised his hand to me in a sort of half wave, in which I did the same.

I turned my head back to the marble doors, and took a deep breath, before I pulled them open. I walked inside an elaborate office, decorated with framed certificates, book inserts, quotes, family pictures, awards...there was so much stuff that it should have been cluttered but somehow, it wasn't. A large mahogany desk sat up against the back wall, with a slightly older, attractive man, maybe 35, with curly dark hair, sitting in a cushy black office chair, typing away on a computer, behind said desk.

He looked up when I came closer, meeting my gaze. His brown eyes twinkled, and his full lips curved in a sweet smile.

"Miss Daniels." He replied, standing up and offering me his hand in greeting.

I shook it, and he motioned me to sit in one of the available chairs in front of his desk.

He sat, as I did, and leaned forwards, resting his elbows against the table, folding his hands together, before resting his chin on them.

"I'm glad you could make it in this morning. I've went over your application and I think you would make a good fit here with us at Prospect Park. I just have a few more questions before we can make it final. Sound good?"

I scrunched my face up a little. "Seriously? I have the job!?" I stood up in excitement, not sure what I intended to do.

He let out a slight chuckle, and nodded.

"As long as all of the background work comes back clear, then yes. You can start tomorrow if you want. You'll be my personal assistant, taking that little desk over there." He pointed to a small desk in the back corner that I hadn't noticed when I first walked in. "You'll attend all business meetings with me, take notes, and anything else I may need you to do."

My heart fell a little, realizing that I wouldn't be reading manuscripts like I had originally believed. I was just going to be an assistant. I pulled myself together quickly.

Everyone had to start from the bottom. I would just do my very best, and work my way up. This was still an amazing opportunity.

I answered all of the questions that he asked, trying to make sure that I sounded as professional as possible, and took the packet of papers that he wanted me to fill out, when I stood up to leave.

"Bring these back with you tomorrow, and I'll have Lilly get you in the system."

I nodded, and smiled. "Thank you so much Mr. Roberts. I couldn't be more grateful for this opportunity."

He grinned and turned back to his computer, signaling to me that we were done. "See you tomorrow Miss Daniels."

I hurried out the door, unable to keep the giant grin off of my face.

"We'll see you tomorrow then?" Lilly asked, as I hurried by her desk.

I nodded at her, but kept going, really wanting to get home to tell Colby, or Kat, or anyone! When I excited the double glass doors, Elias stepped in front of me, making me stop short.

"Oh Holy Shit, Elias!" I exclaimed, holding my hand to my heart. "You almost scared me to death."

"I need you to come with me NOW." He replied urgently, pulling on my arm.

I looked around nervously, expecting to see flaming red hair but I saw nothing.

I let him pull me to the side of the building where the trees blocked us from view.

"Okay, what's goin-"

He pushed me against the wall, and placed his hand on my jaw, holding my face still.

My heart started pounding. Something wasn't right. He stared into my eyes, and I saw the silver ring contract as his irises grew.

I knew what that meant. He was trying to compel me. I squeezed my eyes shut, but the pressure increased on my jaw.

"Open your eyes Chloe." He demanded, as his nails started biting into my skin.

I opened my eyes, feeling the tears leaking down the side of my face.

"Please don't do this Elias." I whimpered out.

"I'm sorry Chloe. I have to." He held my face in place, and leaned closer, his eyes locked on mine.
