Sam sighed, letting out a heavy breath. "If I have to compel her afterwards...I guess I'll do what I have to do."

The door bell rang then, surprising all of us. It was only 3pm. We weren't usually taking visitors at this time...hell, we weren't usually up at this time.

"Did you guys invite someone over?" I asked, looking around at all of them. They all shook their heads, murmuring no. "Well, who the fuck is this then?"

I got up to go answer the door.

We were involved in some shady shit, the underside of LA life. Drug deals, gun trades, you name it, we were involved but it was usually just our protection that people paid us for. They paid very well, but no one ever came to our house, unless invited. They knew better.

I pulled the door open, squinting against the sunlight. Might not kill or burn me, but it still hurt my fucking eyes. I shielded my eyes with my hand, and looked at our visitor.

"Fuck." The word slipped out but I was surprised.

Kat stood there, her blue hair shining, her usually kind eyes, blazing mad and aimed directly at me.

"SAM" I yelled, backing away from the door to let her in.

"I'm not here for Sam. I'm here for you." She replied haughtily, stalking past me into the house.

I shut the door, confused. "Huh? What do you want with me?"

Sam entered the hallway then, his eyes going wide with shock. "Katrina? What are you doing here?"

She gave him a side glance, then pointed at me. "I'm here to talk to him."

Sam looked at me, and chewed his bottom lip, then back to Kat. "What did I tell you about coming here without letting me know? It could be dangerous. You can't just pop up here."

She flipped her hair back, making it fly out behind her. Her anger was pouring off of her, making her scent fill the open room.

I saw Sam wince a little when he swallowed. Guess it was still hard for him. Hell, it was hard for me right now too.

"Saaam," I tried to tell him with my eyes that this was really not a good time.

He caught my eye and nodded. He walked over to her and took her hand.

"Come on babe, it's really not a good time right now."

She snatched away from him. Okay, wow. I had never seen her be anything but this sweet loving girl towards Sam. Usually towards anyone, even Elton.

"You will not lead me away like a child. I don't give a flying fuck if everyone is scared of upsetting HIM." She pointed at me again, and said HIM like it was something disgusting on the bottom of her shoe.

Fuuuck, her scent though. It was potent, sweet smelling. Nothing like Chloe's but very enticing all the same.

I really needed to try to eat again. Something fresh. The blood bags weren't cutting it but I just couldn't bring myself to bite anyone since that happened with Chloe and I.

My stomach was actually burning, and cramping with Kat's scent filling my nose. I looked to Sam for help but he just shrugged, and moved to the outside of us, but still in the middle. I guess so he could jump in and stop me if he needed to. He might need to. Katrina's glare flicked to my face.

"YOU have destroyed my friend. I don't know what kind of hold you have over her exactly, but I've never seen her this wrecked before. You need to fix it." I opened my mouth to speak, but she continued. "And how dare you talk about her parents. They DIED...but you didn't know that. because you didn't bother getting to know her, even though you were with her all night long. You're selfish Colby Brock. A selfish fucking prick! I still don't know how Sam stands being friends with you."

Ouch. That was offensive...but wait.

 "Her parent's died? I didn't know that."

Well, now I feel like a total piece of shit. I only felt like half a piece of shit before because I knew that I was doing it to protect her in a way. From me...but her parents...I could tell that something that I had said had hurt her severely but I wasn't sure what it had been. Now I knew.

 "Fuck."

Kat nodded, her lips a tight line across her face.

"Yeah, fuck is right. She's moping around the damn house, wearing dirty clothes, and not even getting off the couch. Luckily, she had to today for a job interview. When we got back home, I told her that I was going to get something for us to celebrate because she got it. I came here because she still isn't herself, even if she did get off the couch and put some makeup on." She walked closer to me and I held my breath, my eyes going wide when I looked over to Sam.

Fucking help me brother! Get your girl!

He didn't though. He was just watching her, his eyes full of wonder. Really? Damn it. I was weak right now so my emotions were going out of control, and I didn't think that I could do anything about it. I pinched the bridge of my nose, squeezing my eyes shut for a moment.

"Kat, I need you to back up some." I didn't mean for my voice to come out demanding, but that sometimes happened.

Okay, that always happened, but still.

"You don't get to tell me what to do. I'm not in your stupid ass gang, or clique, whatever the fuck this is. I'm telling you what to do. Fix this with Chloe. I don't like you Colby. I tried to since you are Sam's best friend, but now you've hurt my best friend. FIX IT." With that, she stalked over to Sam, kissed him, then walked to the door, swinging to face us one last time. "Sam, I'll see you later tonight."

Her gaze fell on me. There were no words, just an evil ass glare before she walked out the door.

My opinion of her changed. She was going to fit right in with us.
