Later. All has been settled. The perfect of them all. And the ugliest of them all.
The day is spent well. No fights. No quarrels. Just the two of them. The two versus the whole school. The two versus the whole world. And when it comes for the time to go home. Lukas Scottville asks. The same question he has asked.
Now thrice.
"Can I walk you home?" And this time. She says yes. Just because. Not to shame him. Not to disappoint him. For the pity of it all.
And their walk is long. They don't know what to talk about. They are afraid of holding each other's arms. She just sees it. That the perfect of them all is boring. Though she can't tell him.
She needs this attention. Someone to calm her heart. When there is none. She needs it. She needs it the most.
"So what did you say about us?" He finally asks. Though she doesn't want to hear him. No one has ever been this boring.
And she answers. Just so not to be rude. "I am still thinking."
Before anymore is said. She reaches home. And Lukas sees. It's not far. Just five blocks away. Away from his home. And he waves her goodbye.
Today he has walked her home. That made him happy.
