This is a rewrite because the original is just bad. I couldn't completely fix it without completely changing it so I did so the best I could.

Modern AU

I pressed the channel button repeatedly, groaning at my choices just like I had been the past few hours. There was nothing sader than lying on your couch with nothing good to watch. But, unfortunately, I had nothing better to do than just hope something entertaining pops up before I actually die of boredom.

I flicked through a few more channels, unappreciative of their options, before just giving up and settling on (random show (bubble guppies)). And, unsurprisingly, as soon as it came on, despite choosing it, I was instantly uninterested and spaced out.

Shocker.

Today was my uncalled for day off. I was scheduled to work today but some high speed winds knocked over our powerlines, leaving my building completely useless and unable to do literally anything.

Now, don't get me wrong; I'm glad I don't have to do to my boring day job for a couple of days, maybe weeks if the city drags it's feet (which I'm sure it will, I just don't have anything to do in my spare time. I cleaned the apartment, did the dishes, have loads of laundry folded and put away- Hell, I even made the bed.

And after all that was done in two hours, I was left with no purpose. Keith wasn't home for me to spend time with and the freezing cold outside sounded even less appealing then whatever show I clicked, which didn't even seem possible.

Rolling flat on my stomach I, begrudgingly, bring my focus back onto the TV with a sigh. This was the poison I picked so I might as well die with dignity.

In the end I think I watched three episodes of (random show(bubble guppies))- or maybe I feel asleep and just dreamed I only watched 3- before I heard the familiar sound of our doorknob jiggling. I peek over the couch just in time to see the front door swing open, Keith following in suit.

A scowl was the only way to describe his expression as he stormed in, yanked the key out of the slot and slammed the door. His usually fluffy hair was disheveled, like he had run his hands through it so many times it just simply refused to go back in place. I frown at the thought as it tugs at my heart.

Keith kicks off his shoes and throws his coat at the rack, missing but not seeming to care, before storming to the kitchen and angrily yanking open the fridge, rattling the contents inside so viciously that even I could hear it from the couch. He was obviously upset.

I can work with that.

Sliding off the couch, I walk slowly to the kitchen, swinging my hips around the island before coming up behind Keith. I can't tell if he knows I'm there or not, but snake my arms around his waist anyways. The muscles in his abdomen tense at my embrace before relaxing into it. Seeing his compliance as a good sign I lean against his form, placing my head on his shoulder to look up at him.

His scowl was still there, now directed into the fridge as he stared blankly at it.

"What's wrong?" I ask gently, murmuring to him as I rub my hand up and down his midsection.

Keith stays quiet, not even offering a feigned hum, and just continues to stare into the fridge. I frown and change the subject, deciding not to push him.

"Are you hungry?"

He waits a few moments before sighing and leaning his head back to where my shoulder would be if I were just a bit taller.

"No." Keith mumbles his answer, less exasperated than I thought it would be.

"Then why'd you open the fridge?" I ask, hardly masking the amusement in my tone.

I expect Keith to get defensive, annoyed even, with me, but he doesn't. He just sighs, dragging a hand down his face, all his fire from before burned out.

"I don't know." Keith mutters, tired defeat emnit in his tone.

I start to say something else when Keith reaches a hand up and cards it through my hair, craning his neck around to press his chapped lips to my forehead before letting his head slump back again. I smile at his affection.

Bringing a hand up from his waist, I thread my fingers through Keith's mussed hair as I ask, "Wanna lie down with me on the couch?"

Keith hums appreciatively as I gently rake my fingers through his mullet, untangling some of the knots I was pretty sure he left there. Keith's eyes close as he presses into the palm of my hand, taking in a deep breath before nodding slowly.

Pulling myself away from his figure, I grasp his hand and lead Keith to the couch, rubbing my thumb over his knuckles as I do so.

I lie down first, my back pressed against the armrest so there was plenty of space to stretch out. I look up at Keith, outstreching my arms to him as he hovers above me. He hesitates for a moment before leaning down and essentially falling into my arms. Resting his head on my shoulder Keith spreads the rest of himself out on the couch, stretching his legs as far as he could.

As his arms wrap around my torso, squeezing tightly as an attempt to bring us close together, I could feel the how tense he was under his black T-shirt. It was like his muscles were a bowstring drawn tight, practically waiting to snap.

Though, of course, I wasn't about to just let that happen.

Pressing a hand firmly against the toned expanse of his tight shirt, I start to rub his back in small circles, running up and down his spine as I do. With my other hand I simply place it on his head, untangling more knots as I comb through his hair.

Keith lets out a deep sigh, exhaling hot air that fans against my neck. And as his chest deflates from the releases of oxygen, I can feel the rest of his body doing the same; Relaxing in my arms, body sinking deeper and deeper into the space between us, until there was none left.

Keith nestles his head closer to my neck as I run my fingers through his hair, scratching at his scalp. He hums, low and warbly as I do. Hair has always been a weakness of his. He turned into goo at even the slightest of touch. Not that I was complaining- I thought it was adorable.

"Hey," I murmur, ruffling Keith's hair to gain his attention, "Are you okay?"

For a few moments I get no response, just that stupid show playing in the background. But Keith sighs again and nods into my shoulder.

"Yeah. Yeah I'm okay."

I don't know if I should believe him, almost wanting to ask him again, when he tilts his head and kisses my neck, nuzzling my skin with his nose.

"Thanks."

I smile smally to myself, dropping my head down to lay on his.

"No problem."
