~ Grammar Focus:
–지만 is used when the information in the second clause of the sentence is opposite or contrary to that in the first. It corresponds to ‘but’ in English. –지만 is added to the stems of verbs and adjectives, and in the case of the past tense, –았/었지만is added.
~ In Conversation:
A 오늘 날씨가 어때요? A How is the weather today? B 바람이 불지만 춥지는 않아요. B It’s windy but not cold.
A 요코 씨, 아파트가 어때요? A How is your apartment, Yoko? B 작지만 깨끗해요. B It’s small but clean.
A 댄 씨가 한국말을 잘해요? A Can Dane speak Korean well? B 네, 외국 사람이지만 한국말을 잘해요. B Yes, (he’s) a foreigner, but he can speak Korean well.
