Still Alive

You've cut her off because you care, but it's hurting her more and more everyday...

You stare at your lap absently, rubbing your wrist without thinking much. There are so many things you want to do. So many things you want to do to yourself. But you remain motionless.
It's almost like the pain has completely consumed you, rendering you helpless. You hate it.
What would she think? Does she still love you? You can still see her face as you told her it was over. You replay it in your mind. It hurts you still, but it had to be done. It wasn't fair to her. Little do you know, she's sitting on her bed right now, hating herself and trying to figure out what she did to make you push her away.
She's hurting even more than you. But you can't feel her pain. All you feel is your own.
You wish you'd never even met her. Then, you could have spared her the pain of being with you.
But in reality, she loves you more than life itself. You let her see the brightness in life. You gave her happiness. You gave her light. But now, her light is gone, and she's lost.
You glance at your phone. Should you call her? Should you just tell her why you did it and how you feel?
That's when your phone rings. The sound cuts through the air and makes you jump in surprise.
You rush to answer it and breathlessly say, "Demi?"

You're walking to the park where you first met. You couldn't really tell her anything over the phone. You owe her this.
Your feet feel heavy as you walk. It's like the weight of everything is pulling them down. But you keep going forward.
When you reach the park, she's already there, waiting for you.
"Demi," you say, and she looks up. She looks tired, and her eyes are slightly red, but her entire face lights up when she sees you.
She looks like a mess, but she's still the most beautiful girl you've ever seen in your entire life. You love her with your entire being.
"Come here," she says, and the two of you practically walk into each other as you throw your arms around one another. She pulls you closer and buries her face in your shoulder.
"I fucking missed you," she mumbles, making you choke up.
"I missed you, too, "you respond, burying your face in her hair and breathing in her scent.
"Why?" she asks simply, but you know what she's asking.
"I didn't want to hurt you," you reply truthfully, and she pulls away enough to look at your face.
"You hurt me more by pushing me away," she says, pain in her eyes.
You feel your heart clench, but she smiles.
"But it doesn't matter now," she says, touching your face and wiping away a tear. You hadn't even realized you'd been crying.
It's like all the pent up emotion has come to the surface, and it's overflowing.
"I'm so sorry," you whisper, but she shakes her head.
"It's okay." She searches your face, her brown eyes flickering from one feature to another before meeting your eyes once more. You feel as though she's staring into your soul. "Just...never leave me again," she says, and you nod.
"I'll never leave you again," you promise, and she smiles. Tears brim in her eyes, and she bites her lip.
"God, you look like absolute shit, but you still manage to take my breath away."
"That's because I look like shit," you respond, making her laugh lightly.
"That's my girl," she says before leaning in. Her lips meet yours, and you can taste the saltiness of your tears. You can't believe you were able to spend any time away from her.
You cling to her like you're afraid she's going to disappear at any moment. She pulls you closer, your feelings mirrored in her actions.
"I love you," you breathe, your lips brushing hers.
She smiles and kisses you again. Her hands fist in your hair, and the slight stinging sensation reminds you that you're still alive. And you're glad.
"I love you more," she mumbles, making you smile.

Suddenly, everything is right again. You just had to face it. You couldn't keep running from your problems. But with Demi, you know you'll be okay.
