"What? Why did you do this?" Hugh screamed, his echo apparently following suit.
Hugh had never in his life felt this weak. God above, why did Joan have to go and tell Kate everything?
Kate, Hugh thought was trustworthy. But yet, she was an innocent(in his opinion) to know about such things. Things regarding....
Hugh shook his head, cleared his throat, and curtly announced "this is not for your ears, Kate."
"What?" Kate asked dubiously.
"This all" Hugh said and in a circling motion of his hand, concluded with "mess."
"I firmly apologise" Joan said, and looked down.
"It's fine" Hugh said and realised he was squaring his jaw.
"You're right" Joan said, meddling with the frill on her skirt "this is-"
"It's fine" Hugh said, once again, aloud.
"Hmmmph" Kate wondered aloud.
"You can never trust two women together" Hugh muttered under his breath.
"What did you say?" Kate asked.
"Now that you're into it Kate" Hugh said, taking a seat on the divan "you have got to help us."
"Of course" Kate said "you needn't tell me."
"So how shall we go about it?" Kate asked, to no one in particular.
"According to my plan, we have to write down the names of the women, who are the best tattletales" Hugh said.
"I top the list" Joan said offhandedly.
"After you" Hugh scowled.
"I know! I know that!" Kate shouted with enthusiasm.
"Good" Hugh muttered.
"I can hopefully write down their names. The nosy misses' you know" Kate said, with a bland smile.
Hugh handed Kate a piece of paper and a quill.
Kate wrote down the names.
Then she read them aloud......
And the first name that was read, gave Joan a heart-attack.
