Week 32//Part 2 - When Will We Stop Pretending?

“Kath, can you come here for a second?” Alex called out to me.

“Fuuuuu . . . ” I said under my breath. Kat snickered next to me. I shot her a glare and handed her my iPod. “Throw this at my head if I start acting like an idiot.”

I continued to walk towards my ex and my mistress—or mister I suppose—with a smile.

“What's up?” I asked them when I finally reached them.

“I wanted to ask you something,” Alex said, leaning on the wall behind him with his hands in his pockets.

“You do?” I asked, rocking back and forth on the balls of my feet with my hands behind my back.

“Yeah,” he said. I swallowed hard. “I'm curious. What were the circumstances?”

I blinked. “What?”

“You know, the circumstances of you cheating on me?” he continued. I almost choked on air at the question. I looked over at Chris, who was stifling a smile. I decided right then that he was evil. No matter how many pink carnations he gives me. I looked back at Alex.

“Um, well . . . I,” I stammered, scratching the back of my head. Thankfully, my hand prevented my head from fracturing when Kat threw my iPod at it. I whipped my head around to face her and threw my arms out.

“You said to throw it at you if you started acting like an idiot! And you were,” she said. I glared at her and turned back around to the two men in front of me.

“Well,” I said, trying to sound sophisticated. I don't know why. “I . . . my senses were slightly . . . nubilous.” I said. Chris' eyebrows rose. “And . . . I . . .”

“Was horny?” Kat finished from 20 yards behind me. I looked straight ahead of me and pursed my lips.

“Katrina!” I yelled.

“Sorry,” I heard. I rolled my eyes.

“I wasn't thinking,” I finished. “I wasn't thinking, I don't really know . . . a good reason, exactly.”

“Hm,” Alex said, nodding. “So, Chris, do I still have to say my circumstances since she pretty much gave the same answer I was going to?” My head whipped over to Chris.

“What, are you trying to be our counselor or something now?” I asked, one hand on my hip. He shrugged.

“Is it working?” he asked.

“No,” I said.

“Then no, I'm not trying to be your counselor,” he said, shaking his head. I narrowed my eyes at him.

“You are the thief of joy,” I told him. An almost invisible smirk crossed his face.

“I'm a thief of a lot of things,” he said, referencing exactly what I thought he was. I rose an eyebrow at him and so did Alex.

“Match time, Mrs. Jericho!” Kat called from behind me. “Or is it Mrs. Riley?”

I deadpanned and picked up my iPod, walking back to my friend without a goodbye to Alex nor Chris.

“Soooo—” Kat said.

“I will throw you off the Cliffs of Insanity and feed you to an R.O.U.S.,” I growled, walking with purpose to the Gorilla.

“What?” she asked, sounding amazingly confused. I shot her a look.

“I need to make you watch The Princess Bride,” I said, looking back ahead of me.
