Chapter 30: Beyond Birthday

Near's POV

By this rate, I was panicking. A VERY unusual thing for me to do, but this is BB we're talking about. A serial killer who has no faith or any belief in humanity, of course he knows that he's still human. But the aftermath of The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases had been the one to drive him madder than he was before, he never did like L. Nor did he have any intentions of succeeding or being him, he only wanted to surpass him. Just like Mello, he thought that solving the Kira Case once and for all can shove our loss into our faces and defeat L. But we had beaten him through that, that's the only thing I know now. His whereabouts are completely unknown to us, he hides them greatly. His motives cannot easily be predicted.

He's much more cunning than others.

Him taking interest in someone who's human would be a great surprise. Not even L can adapt to that very easily.

I walked into Roger's office, it's taking time but moving on my own would be useless and dumb. I know myself that I can't fight Beyond head-on, I've been trained to stay behind a computer or a large screen. I've been trained to succeed an 'armchair' detective, not the ones who takes action.

If only Mello and I had worked with each other, he'd be the one doing all physical works while I stay behind in the surveillance and catch sight of the happenings. I can't see that happening any moment, if he doesn't hate me then he's dead.

I knocked loudly on Roger's office, there's a bedroom connected to it and a door separating them so I'd have to knock louder than what you'd usually do with a wooden door.

The door opened revealing a very sleepy Roger. "Near? What are you doing here?"

I took a deep breath and calmed myself down to my usual state. A panicked mind won't let me think straight and I might become readable and vulnerable.

"Roger, it seems like we have a bad problem. It's Beyond, and he's not far away off from Wammy's House."

It only took him 3 seconds for the information to sink in. His sleepy eyes and slouched posture immediately woke and straightened.

"Beyond? As In Beyond Birthday? How did you know?" He said with wide eyes.

"It appears to be that he had met and caught interest with one of my friends, (Y/N)." I explained, nearly wincing at the word 'friends' since I wasn't entirely sure nor was I used to calling anyone a friend.

Omniscient's POV

"This is bad. This is bad. This is bad." Roger kept whispering as he hurried to punch in the numbers into the telephone. The snow-haired boy kept quiet, as if contemplating himself what to do.

"Greetings Mey-Rin. I'm deeply sorry for calling in such short notice, but I think I'd need your help sooner than intended." He spoke unto the phone, clutching it tightly.

"No problem Roger! I always promised my help after L had saved my life! Yes, I did!" A cheery voice replied, which you'll not be expecting that comes from a trained sharpshooter assassin.

"The only thing left is the details and I'll be sure the job is done smoothly and accurately!" Mey-Rin cheerily added, which made the caller think in wonder on how killing is a very normal thing for the Plum-Red haired girl.

"This one is different I believe miss Mey-Rin. Just nearby Wammy's House a man named 'Beyond Birthday' has gotten ahold of an (h/c) haired girl at this very moment. He's rather odd and dangerous, a serial killer you say. The priority of this job would be to save the girl and make sure she's unharmed. Beware of Beyond though, he's got... sharp eyes."
