Chapter 23 Part 1: Shinigami Eyes Information

"Those were some strong words! N is pretty sure of himself!" Matsuda said right after N had ended the call. Light stood up and sighed.

"I've been thinking. If any of you wants to contact Near then please go ahead, I'm not really okay with how the things are going either. But ideally I think we should work with the SPK, it may clear our heads." Light said, trying to look innocent.

"Still it kinda feels like Near is against us doesn't it?" Matsuda rhetorically asked.

Light removed his ear-piece while Aizawa thought deeply,

'Light, I think you might be Kira. Please, prove me wrong.' Aizawa said inside his head,

'Aizawa. You are probably suspecting me now huh?' Light thought inside his mind.

'Hyuk, Hyuk, Hyuk. Things are getting pretty interesting' This well known shinigami thought, Ryuk scratched his head and began eating an apple that was tossed to him by Matsuda.

'When I think about Deputy Director Yagami, I don't wanna suspect Light even a little bit. But.. ugh.' Aizawa sighed. He was probably thinking too much of this case that he had no time for his family.

Speaking of his family, Aizawa's daughter suddenly walked to the living room, she was happy to see her dad home at least for tonight.

"Dad?" Her voice called out, happiness evident on her face. "Welcome back! I didn't know you're gonna be home tonight." She said.

"Oh yeah. Why are you still awake?" Aizawa asked his daughter.

"I've got a lot of exams coming up!" His daughter replied.

"Oh I see, don't push yourself to hard okay?" Aizawa responded, giving her a smile despite everything running on his mind.

"Kay! You too dad." Her daughter said while she gave a bright smile to her father and went to sleep. The man sighed, 'One thing's for sure, I can't die yet. My family needs me.'

'I wouldn't be surprised if one of the others contacted Near, but it is very inevitable what comes after that. If I'm too late to act, something might happen that I won't be able to take back.' Light thought deeply as he sat in his chair. He ran a hand through his light caramel hair as he sighed.

'I've got no choice but to do it.'

A call brought Misa to her senses. She quickly ran to her laptop with pure joy on her face. "Oh my gosh! An emergency call from Light! Yay!" She squealed like a 15-year old obsessed fangirl. (It's not meant to offend anyone. I'm sorry if it sounded like it did. I am an obsessed fangirl myself, except that I'm not fangirling over Light.)

"H-huh? No way." Was her reaction as she read what is inside file #3.

A call was heard on the SPK Headquarters just as Near had let go of the dices inside of an ironically, a dice box. Gevanni put the phone in Near's ear as he began to talk.

"Hello? This is Near."

"I'm Aizawa from the Japanese Task Force."

"So. The time has finally come. If I do this, my safety is guaranteed and I can finally just be a normal wife. This is what Light wants for me, he wants me to be happy just as a woman should be. T-thank you Light." Misa said out loud, joy bursting out from her words as the file was read. She was - like all the other time- fooled again by Light with such sweet and soothing words that contained emptiness.

"I see, that's very interesting. So you're saying that there are two suspect the previous L detained for 50-days and their innocence was proven by the 13-day rule. Correct?" Near confirmed Aizawa who had secretly called him. 'These two must be Light Yagami and the model Misa Amane, just like what L had told Y/N about.'

"Yes, but of course that alone does not prove that they were Kira." Aizawa replied, proud of himself that he did not once stutter.

"And L was willing to release them just because of that?" Near continued to question. Of course he already knew that L didn't easily drop his suspicions, he isn't the one to be very persistent and then drop their own suspicions easily. He was just wondering on what L had did after that.

"No. L had deputy director Yagami, the current chief at that time to put on an act. He was instructed to tell the suspects that they have been both found guilty as Kira and the Second Kira and that they're going to be executed. He was after, told to pull out a gun to pretend and kill the suspects, he said that he will first kill Kira and then himself." Aizawa paused, letting the new information sink in.

"Mhm." Near responded, giving him the sign to continue.

"The idea was that if Deputy Director Yagami would die then Light is Kira." Aizawa finished.

'Kira is quite impressive. He must have used the detainment to prove his innocence, well done.' Near thought. He suddenly lightened up when he thought of a theory.

"Out of curiosity, were the suspects willing to be detained as a part of the investigation?" Near asked, confirming his thoughts.

'Come to think of it, Light did volunteer to be imprisoned.' Aizawa thought, fearing the most possible outcome of this suspicion. He didn't say anything, he can't.

"If he did, then I'd say that settles the matter wouldn't you?" Near asked as he looked on the phone behind his ear.

"So who was it? Who were the two suspects?" Near asked, he already had the feeling that Aizawa wouldn't tell him those suspects.

"I can't tell you that much, I might be willing to cooperate with you but I'm still a member of the task force working under L." Aizawa replied, he was very hesitant to tell something about Yagami's son and Misa Amane.

"I understand. Thank you very much. Especially the part about those Shinigami Eyes, it was very helpful. Goodbye." With that, Near had ended the call.

'Shinigami Eyes huh? Looks like I learn something new everyday.' Near thought.

Y/N nervously sat down on her chair. 'He already found out about the Shinigami Eyes, I'm now contemplating whether to tell him about my Half Shinigami-ness or not.' She nervously thought, quickly masking her emotions with an emotionless face.

"Is that enough Near? Shouldn't you have pressed for further information?" Gevanni asked when he closed the phone.

"That level of cooperation is alright. Besides, I discovered something very important. Very important indeed." Near said.

"I can't believe it, Deputy Director Yagami's son and Misa Amane are really Kira and the Second Kira? L suspected them, L had told Y/N about them, the 13-day rule, everything leads up to them. I am surprised that the Task Force didn't even arrest them yet." Halle spoke up.

"They're probably blinded by the fact that Light is their Chief's son. They don't wanna suspect him the least because of that." Y/N replied, masking any of her emotions coming from the Shinigami Eyes information.
