You take a deep breath before knocking on Zoe and Alfie's door. It is Alfie's 24th birthday and since you had been very close with both Alfie and Zoe for a long time you had been invited. The only problem was that your ex-boyfriend and also Zoe's brother, Joe was coming too. It has only been two months since you broke it off and you haven't seen him since. You felt incredibly nervous but when you saw Zoe open the front door with a huge smile a bit of your nerves vanished.
"Hello gorgeous," Zoe said before giving you a lovely hug with a big smile.
"Hi love," you answered and hugged Zoe back.
"Come on inside. Everyone is here," Zoe said and you knew that she meant Joe as well. You felt your cheeks burn and your palms getting sweaty as you followed Zoe inside the living room where people were standing with drinks in their hands, both inside and outside on the terrace. Your eyes instantly fell on Joe who were standing in a corner talking with Marcus and Jim. Your stomach twisted and you took a deep breath to try and calm down before Alfie noticed you and greeted you.
"Y/N!" Alfie exclaimed before hugging you and you smiled. Tanya, Niomi, Alfie's parents, Sean, Poppy and Mark was here as well. You started walking around to greet people and you ended in front of Joe, Jim and Marcus.
"Hi Y/N. Long time no see," Jim said in a cheerful voice and you couldn't help but smile at him. He was always such a sweetheart. You tried to ignore the fact that you and Joe had ever been a couple even though hugging him made all your feelings go crazy.
"How are you?" Joe asked and hearing his voice again made your heart skip a beat.
"Good thanks, and you?" you asked and it already felt really awkward. Especially because Jim and Marcus were just standing there listening to your awkward conversation.
"Y/N, come and get a drink in the kitchen," Zoe suddenly said from behind you and you turned around to look at her. You were so thankful that Zoe saved you from this awkward situation.
"See you later guys," you said with a smile before following Zoe out into the kitchen.
"I have to ask, how is it seeing Joe again?" Zoe asked and it was obvious that she knew you were uncomfortable. She poured you a drink by the kitchen table and you looked at her with a sigh.
"It's awkward and weird," you admitted with a little laugh and Zoe nodded.
"Don't tell him I said this but he hasn't stopped talking about seeing you again since I told him you were coming. I think he's nervous about seeing you again as well," Zoe said to calm you, but it only made you feel more nervous. Zoe handed you the drink and you took a sip just as Joe walked into the kitchen with a smile.
"Hi Joe," Zoe said and you almost choked on your drink.
"Can I talk with you Y/N?" Joe then said and your stomach twisted once again.
"Sure," you answered with sweaty hands and red cheeks.
"I'll leave you two alone," Zoe said and left. Joe looked at you with a sideways smile.
"How are you?" he asked once again and you chuckled.
"Do we have to make all this awkward small talk?" you asked, which made Joe smile and shake his head.
"No I'm sorry. I actually want to try and make it less awkward but you know me... I'm good at awkward," Joe said with a cute smile and just talking to him again made you miss him even more than before.
"Me too," you answered and you both smiled at each other.
"I just miss you Y/N and it's so weird not talking to you anymore... I know we broke up but I... I just feel like I've missed a part of myself since you left. I know it sounds cheesy but I still love you Y/N," Joe said and his words made you smile and your stomach twist once again. It was weird hearing him say things like that. You were sure you felt the same way but you weren't sure it was the right thing to take him back. You broke up because Joe was too busy with the whole youtube thing and he didn't make you a priority.
"Obviously I miss you too, but you know why we broke up and I just don't think it can work," you said and even though it hurt you to say it, it was the truth. Youtube was Joe's thing and you didn't expect him to use less time on that just because you were there.
"I know I always put you second and the time we've been apart I've realized that I wanted you to be my first priority because like... It's you. You're the only girl I've ever loved and letting go of you was the stupidest thing I've ever done. So I really want to try and make it up to you. Obviously Youtube is my job, but now I know how to make time for both youtube and you," Joe explained and his words made so much sense and you couldn't help but smile.
"I'm just scared Joe. My heart can't take being broken again," you said whilst looking down at the floor. Joe suddenly took your hand and butterflies instantly appeared in your belly.
"I never intended on breaking your heart and the last thing I want to do is make you sad," Joe said and looked at you with his beautiful blue eyes. You had always loved his eyes. It was the first thing you had noticed about him when you first met two years ago.
"I know that Joe and I want to try again, believe me. I had no idea how much I had missed you until I saw you today," you admitted and Joe smiled at you whilst gently pinching your hand in his.
"Can I at least invite you out for dinner and then try and prove to you that things have changed?" Joe asked with hope in his eyes. His cute smile made you giggle, and you nodded. You couldn't say no to that face.
"I promise I won't kiss you until the third date," Joe said with a smirk and you nodded with a sarcastic smile.
"Oh, what a gentleman," you said sarcastically and you both laughed. You looked at each other for a moment without saying anything and you felt literal sparks between you.
"Lets go back to the others," you said and Joe nodded with a smile.
"Thank you," Joe whispered in your ear just before you returned to the party. You knew this could go horribly wrong but the big smile on your face that didn't go away all night proved to you that it was worth trying.
