Uptown Upton was the equivalent of Manhattan in New York. Mustard coloured taxis bumper to bumper jostled for position on the cab rank. Shoppers were out and about, bags in hand window shopping. The streets were wide and clean, the shops were large and had the most expensive goods in them. Arianne and Trelainne's taxi pulled up outside the Dining Room a well to do restaurant owned by Tony 'Two Toes' Tagliatelli. "That'll be ten dollars," the driver said as he looked back at them through the grille.

Arianne got a fresh ten dollar note from her purse and added another dollar to it. As she handed it to him she said, "Can I have a receipt please?"

"Do you want a proper receipt or a tax fiddler's receipt?"

"A proper one please, we don't fiddle here!"

"Said the violinist with broken fingers," quipped the taxi driver as he gave her a proper receipt.

As they got out of the taxi she whispered to Trelainne, "If they're not out and out criminals in this dimension then they're on the make."

The taxi driver waved to them as he drove to the rank, she waved back and gave a false smile.

"What a lovely false smile," jibed Trelainne.

"Said the fiddler to the roof."

"We weren't on the roof?"

"It's an expression."

"I've never heard it."

"You have now!"
