Arianne had rung Arthur’s solicitor, got the others together and was making her way to the police station in a red minibus.
“It gets on my nerves this,” griped Biggs.
“What?” asked With.
“Travelling like this. Arthur gets a classic Chevrolet to drive around in and we have to use a battered red minibus.”
“That’s the problem with having lots of main characters in books and films, you can’t seem to employ all of them efficiently.”
“So you mean we are all like spare bits dropped off?”
“You could say that.”
“Nice, ‘Dear Mum, I am now a spare bit dropped off’.”
“I thought you were supposed to be second in charge?” thought Lee.
“So did I. I used to be. Then Sid turned up as Arthur’s witty foil.”
“But he’s not second in charge, you are,” said With.
“He might as well be, he always seems to be with Arthur.”
“Maybe you should say something?”
“Something.”
“Obvious joke.”
“Obviously.”
