Chapter 42: Nothing Will Break Us

We land back in the courtyard about an hour later just before lunch and I jump off Olly's broom. 

"Come on, we can't be late, Draco will know something is up," I say walking back to the door.

"Elena" Alex says stopping in his track

"What," I ask

I turn around to see Draco standing in the arch on the entrance.

I instantly freeze and stare at him in shock.

"How's your exam going Elena?" he asks obviously angry.

"Draco I can explain," I say

"Don't, don't say anything, what the hell is going on with you? You've been running off every week for hours and now you're lying to me so you can go flying with him." He says filling with anger.

"Draco this has nothing to do with Olly, I couldn't tell you.."

"You couldn't tell me what?" He yells

"I can't tell you" I yell back "you would ruin everything" I yell

"Wow, thanks," Draco says backing away from me.

"Draco I didn't mean.."

"Save it, Elena," he says walking away from me into the castle.

I turn to Alex and Olly for support as I feel the tears pool in my eyes.

"It's ok Elena, we'll get him back," Olly says walking up to me.

Alex comes to my other side and puts his arm around me.

"And he just left?" Maddy asks painting her last nail.

"Yup," I say pushing my dress down and laying down. 

"What an ass," Claire says pinning her hair up.

"Claire" Maddy scolds

"Well it's true, look what he did to her, she lying on our floor looking like a depressed pancake," she says pointing to me.

I sit up on my elbows and look at all of them.

"What should I do?" I ask

"Kick him where it hurts," Claire says

"Claire!" Maddy yells hitting her with her hair brush.

"You should talk to him, or at least try too," Beth says

"I wouldn't even know where to look," I say

"Elena, he loves you more than anything. Where does he go when he's sad?" Maddy asks

I instantly remember the garden and jump to my feet. Get everyone ready. I know where he is. I look at the clock at it's 8:45. I throw me heels on and run out the door and down the hall. I dash through the common room and up the stairs. I go down the corridor and come to the door that leads outside. I open it slowly and slip out. I see the garden with the tall hedges in the center. I walk around quietly and come to the opening.

"Draco?" I say softly

I hear something move on the other side and walk in. I see Draco sitting on the small bench and he looks up at me.

"Elena?" He says confused

"Can I talk to you, please?" I say takings step closer to him.

"What's going on?" He asks looking at my outfit.

"I'll explain in a minute," I say sitting down beside him.

"Ok," he says waiting for an explanation.

"So, since this is where we tell each other everything, I guess I should tell you something," I say looking down

Draco stays quiet and waits

"A few months ago, Harry and Hermione had an idea to teach the students real defense against the dark arts. Spells that would help if "you know who" ever showed up. We've been recruiting people for it and that's where we all go every week" I say

"Wow," Draco says

"And I would never cheat on you! Don't you ever think that" I add hitting his arm.

"Ok, I believe you," he says grabbing his arm.

"Ok," I say

"So what's with this?" He says grabbing my dress.

"It's a surprise," I say jumping up.

"Come come," I say holding my hand out for him.

Draco takes my hand and we walk back into the castle.

"Should I be worried?" He asks

"No, just prepare for something you don't like," I say

"What?" He says pulling back a little.

"Don't be such a baby?" I say pulling him.

We walk to the moving stair case and start to walk up.

"I'm not scared of the stairs," he says joking

"Ha," I say slowly and roll my eyes.

I pull him up the stairs and we get to the common room door.

"Ready," I ask

"I guess," he says

The door opens and we walk into the dark room.

"You know, I'm not really scared of the dark either," he says

I stop and he bumps into me.

"Well, it's what's hiding in the dark that's important.

The lights turn on and everyone jumps up and yells surprise at us.

Draco is completely startled and jumps up.

"Surprise, it's people" I joke.

Confetti drops from the ceiling and lands over Draco and I and he smiles.

"Really?" Draco laughs

"Yes," I say excitedly.

Olly, Alex, Blaise, Beth, Maddy and Claire all bolt at us and attack Draco with hugs. They all stumble around to not fall and I move out of the way.

"Happy birthday," Maddy says

"Happy birthday buddy," Blaise says

"Happy birthday Draco," Claire says

"Thanks, guys," Draco says looking at me.

He obviously figured out that I told everyone when his birthday was and did this.

"Ok guys let him breathe," Hermione says

"I hope this isn't too much," she says

"It's great," he says

Hermione smiles at me and I smile back.

Music starts to play loudly and everyone cheers. The room explodes with music and people dancing. Claire and Blaise leave to dance, followed by Maddy and Olly.

"Dance with me," Alex says to Beth

"It would be my honor" she jokes taking his hand.

"Did you see that coming?" Draco asks me.

"What? Alex and Beth? Oh ya" I say

He laughs and holding out his hand for me. I take it and he pulls me to dance.

"So!" Draco says as he spins me. "You did this!" He yells over the music.

"Of course!" I yell back

Draco pulls me towards him and hugs me. I hug him back and we seat back and forth quickly with the dance music.
