Raine read through Stacy's Hush profile for the umpteenth time on her phone. Stacy was apparently looking for nothing serious and just wanted to have a lot of fun. She checked off a bunch of categories of what she wanted to explore. Stacy stated that wanted to meet in discreet places around towns and checked off meeting places like cars, washrooms, hotel rooms, and so on.

Raine couldn't help but feel a little worried about the precarious places Stacy where was meeting these women. She wondered if Stacy was taking safety precautions like Face-timing with the person to make sure they were who they said they were before she met with them.

At the same time, the good memories she had with Stacy came flooding back and it was hard to stay grounded with the reality of what happened; especially when all she wanted to do was pretend that it never did.

Raine slid her thumb over the the message box and sighed as her as it hovered over the draft.

Hey Stacy,

How are you? It's been a really long time and I've been thinking about you a lot lately... I miss more than you know and I want to see you again.

Raine

Raine had shortened the message from a mess of thoughts to three sentences. She read the it over and over again as she paced back and forth in her dorm. Should I get rid of the part about missing her? Should I send this? She couldn't decide what she wanted to do. On one hand, she wanted to figure out what she now felt about Stacy since three years had passed... On the other hand, she was afraid to rehash all of those feelings again.

She watched as her hand shook with the phone and took in a deep breath. Just do it. Her thumb wavered over the send button before it made contact with the screen.

It sent and all Raine could hear was her heart thumping in silence. Is she going to respond? She threw her phone on the bed to prevent herself from checking to see if there was a response.

Raine walked over to the brightly lit bathroom and stared back at a dark haired woman in the mirror. It was bizarre to see herself with black hair again. The thin layers fell over her upper back and her long bangs were swept over to one side. It had been so long since looked like this. The black eyeliner and curled eyelashes drew attention to the russet brown eyes that looked like dark reflective marbles. She reminded herself of a younger version of her mom.

There was a time when Raine was proud of how she looked. A time before the shame took over.

For fuck sakes. Maybe Quin was right...

A few nights ago, she and Quin had gone out for drinks the night before and when had he asked about Chris, Raine explained their fight and revealed that she wanted to prove Chris wrong. Raine had ranted on about how she didn't want to be seen as a coward. She didn't want to be like Monica, the person that she and Chris had interviewed, so she was going to suck it up and visibly look Chinese.

Being viewed as weak was more bothersome to Raine than the discomfort she felt in her own skin.

Quin had encouraged her to start with a gradual change, but Raine hated the feeling of knowing what was ahead. The dread and anticipation during every passing moment until her transformation was complete would have killed her.

Needless to say, Raine wasn't too fond of seeing Chris on this particular day because she was still uncomfortable with her new look.

Raine unlocked her door, paused, and let go over the half-turned doorknob. She sighed. Raine wasn't ready for the questions, the stares, and whatever else there was to come. She wasn't ready to go out into the world like this.

Actually, I know what will make me feel better. Raine strolled across the room and opened the curtains to let the sunlight blast into her place. Next, she walked over to her laptop and unplugged the metallic purple headphones from it. She connected them to her phone, placed them over her ears, and picked a song. In fact, she picked a song she listened to before every exam, promotional launch, and interview.

A minute and forty-eight seconds later, Chris barged into the dorm after endless knocking with no response. Only, she stopped in her tracks and was completely dumbfounded. What Chris saw, was a curvy feminine person hovered in midair over Raine's bed with their wild black hair whipped all around their head.

"When it's you and me, we don't need no one to tell us who to be. We'll keep turning up the ra-diii-oo," they sang in between launching themselves off of the bed repeatedly.

Chris' eyes stretched bigger than they had ever gone before when she recognized Raine's voice. Her head bobbed backward, then forward, and then tilted to the side like one curious looking pigeon.

Meanwhile, Raine held the fort down with a hairbrush in one hand as she belted her little heart out, "Well it's you and I, just put our middle finger to the sky, let 'em know that we're still rock 'n roll. ROCK 'N ROLL!"

Raine had on a pair of ripped capris that showed off her particularly round ass, which distracted Chris momentarily. Raine's back suddenly arched and her legs bent as one of her fists pumped through the air in a superman-like pose.

Chris couldn't help but let the sudden bubble of laughter tickle its way up her throat and burst out of her open mouth. Her eyes shut tightly as she held her neck up between her index finger and thumb.

Upon hearing a sound from outside of her headphones, Raine pulled them off and landed her knees on the plushy bed. She turned around and found Chris' face red beyond belief as the twenty-six year old choked out laughter. Raine felt her ears and face turn heat up.

"What are you doing in here?" She yelled at Chris in a high pitched voice and then continued, "You fucking asshole!"

Raine hurled a pillow at her and watched it catapult off Chris' head like a bouncy ball.

"I'm dying..." Chris felt the little tears squeeze through her eyes as she crouched forward and held out an open palm in the form of a stop signal, "No more."

Raine plopped onto her belly and buried her face into the softness of her comforters. The coolness felt nice against her burning skin. Oh my god, this is not happening...

When Chris finally settled down, she crawled onto the bed with Raine and laid next to her so they were face to face.

"You're a jerk," Raine pouted.

Chris grinned, as she tucked Raine's hair behind her ear so she could get a good look at Raine's face. For the first time, Chris could stare into her eyes without the blue contact lenses in the way. Chris searched them and discovered that it was like she had an aerial view of two rings of dirt mountains that surrounded deep black holes.

Chris moved closer and quietly said, "You're more beautiful than ever."

Raine realized she was holding her breath due to Chris' intense focus on her.

Raine took in a deep breath and grinned with a fake bravado when she said, "I'm always on my A game."

Not liking the attention, Raine got off the bed grabbed her bag and threw a red and black plaid button-up shirt over her white tank. She slid her hair to the side and grabbed the brush off the bed to comb it. She mumbled as she continued to brush, "I thought we were meeting at the bus stop..."

Chris leaned back on her elbows and shrugged, "I missed you so I didn't want to wait." I'm so glad I didn't. That was terribly adorable.

Raine bit back a smile and looked over at Chris. Her eyes ran over Chris' black cargo pants and tight black t-shirt that showed off her small toned muscles. She put the brush down on the bed and leaned over the bed.

"You're a dork," Raine whispered. I missed you too... A lot.

Chris noticed that both of Raine's hands were now next to both sides of Chris' straightened legs. Still leaned back on her elbows, Chris stared up at Raine as they moved closer towards each other. I can't believe she's even hotter now.

The contrast between Raine's straight black hair and rosy cheeks seemed more natural than the blonde. Raine's hair made a curtain around them as Chris let herself free fall into Raine's eyes one last time before her lips parted to meet Raine's.
