Raine felt terribly guilty about the way she treated Chris, but she couldn't place her finger on what it was it was that annoyed her. She thought that maybe it was the fact that Chris' British accent kind of reminded her of Stacy. While she and Stacy had an interesting relationship, Stacy was the one who broke Raine and tore the life Raine knew into pieces. And since then, Raine just got comfortable living with the fragments.

Regardless, she had to get over it. It's not like she had a choice anyway.

Raine looked down at her phone. It was Friday evening and she didn't want to be alone. She sighed, dreading the next day because she had to meet up with Chris again. She decided to deal with the dread like she always did, she sent a text to Chris to invite her out. Raine knew that it would not only would that reduce the following day's awkward tension, but it'd show Chris that she wouldn't mind hanging out with her.

While Chris agreed, she somehow suckered Raine into doing schoolwork before leaving.

After reading countless articles for their research project, Raine finally shut her laptop and got off her bed. Chris was still typing away at her own on Raine's computer desk.

"Want a drink?" Raine announced.

"Sure, surprise me," Chris responded nonchalantly.

Raine came back with a big grin and set a large bottle of blue liquid on the desk, "Sour Puss."

Chris' eyebrows raised, "Haha... you're a loser."

"I'm the coolest person you'll ever meet," Raine smiled.

And so the drinking began.

"So what's your story?" Raine asked, her back lumped against her single bed.

"Nothing special, I'm getting my Ph.D in psych, but I have to take this course we're in because some of my credits were askewed when all was said and done. You Americans have an odd system," Chris shrugged.

Raine blinked, "Where are you from then?"

"Isn't it obvious? I'm from England," Chris laughed.

"No, like where are you really from?" Raine tilted her head and took a sip of the bottle and handed it back to the cross-legged woman in front of her.

Chris snatched the bottle from her, looking quite unimpressed, she sighed, "Are you asking where I was born?"

Raine nodded.

"Bloody hell. Not you too... I was born in Hong Kong and then I moved to England for school," Chris said before taking a huge swig.

"What?" Raine blinked.

"Nothing. Nevermind," Chris shook her head at Raine's oblivious self and placed the bottle in between them. This isn't the time for call-outs.

Raine paused, but let it drop and asked, "So why'd you move here?"

"Well, to keep a rather long story short, I had a relationship with my professor who was overseeing my work. Rumors started spreading and when she caught wind of it, she chose her career over me," Chris sunk into the ground and took a deep breath before she continued, "What hurt the most was having her treat me like every other student. I finished my dissertation with a different professor, but I couldn't get over her."

Raine gaped at her for a few seconds prior to speaking, "So you moved across the ocean to a new country to get over her?"

"Yes," Chris blinked and then chuckled, "I know I can be a bit extreme at times."

A silence crept between them.

"Do you think that's what some people need to... you know, get over someone?" Raine asked and hugged her knees. Do I need to move?

Chris grinned, "No Raine, you don't need to move to get over her. Meaningful relationships are difficult aren't they?"

"Yeah... especially when they're trying to psychologically manipulate you into opening up," Raine grinned.

"You caught me," Chris put up her hands in defeat.

"Why don't you just ask?" Raine asked, puzzled.

Chris scooted next to her and leaned against her bed with her legs flat on the ground. She threw her head back and stared at the ceiling, "Because you're not really one to just tell."

"How do you know that?" Raine asked with suspicion.

"Because we're quite similar, contrary to your belief," Chris sounded like she was getting bored.

"No we're not," Raine asserted.

"Okay, we aren't. So tell me about her then. What did she do to you?" Chris smiled.

Raine sighed, "She's a woman that works here on campus. She broke my heart and I can't stop thinking about her," and hugged her knees tighter.

Chris let out a small smile, satisfied at the tidbit of information. She wrapped an arm around Raine's shoulder and looked at her, "You know, if you open up to the people around you and just vent more it could help speed up your grieving process."

Raine tilted her head to the side and looked at her from between the little nook she created with her arms.

"Stop counseling me Doctor Kwon," Raine glared.

Chris was kind of right. She hadn't even told Quin the full story of what happened. She just sobbed in his arms for a long time. However, when Quin would probe about what happened, she would just get teary eyed and leave, so he eventually stopped asking.

Chris grinned, "I don't think this touching would be appropriate if I were your psychologist."

Raine's face softened. She looked into Chris' eyes - one of which was partly covered by her black choppy bangs. She was kind of cute in a strange boyish way. Intrigued, she couldn't help but smile back at the dimples. Raine's eyes shifted down to Chris' tempting lips and lingered there for a moment.

Chris caught her traveling eyes and to Raine's annoyance, Chris smirked at her.

By the time they headed out, it was dark and Raine had a vague idea of where she was. Once she got to the lesbian club, they met up with Scarlet, who finally got her hands on this so called, 'Devil's Breath' drug. They'd heard stories about how it was a drug that removed free will and was being used for criminal activity, but they needed to experience it for themselves. Raine could kind of remember fucking Scarlet in the washroom but wasn't really sure how long they were in there for. And prior to all this, Chris was supposed to keep an eye on them just to make sure they were all right. It probably wasn't the best plan, seeing as Chris was high as a kite on ecstasy.

The lights and music just got meshed into one big mess. She could hardly remember Chris break dancing and women cheering her on. For a second, she even thought Chris' know-it-all smirk was extra sexy with clenched teeth.

When Chris left with another woman, Raine recalled that she felt her chest tighten and her eyebrows scrunch disapprovingly.

Raine couldn't remember who she left with, but she knew it was someone familiar. It was like a being in a lucid dream. They talked for what seemed like they knew each other and then the girl suggested that they kissed. Everything in Raine's mind was screaming for her not to kiss back, but her lips were way too enticing. She gave in. Raine combed her fingers through the woman's hair. Adrenaline to coursed through Raine.  Raine couldn't help but wonder if this was what Stacy felt every time they met.

That girl talk. It's always nice to talk to someone who's been through what you have. What do you folks think of the tension between them? Want to see more? Click the cute little star and vote! :)
