New Beginning

Chapter 23

When we get there, Toby and I both rush to the women's wing. We get there and see her family there. The doctor comes out. "We are taking her to the delivery room. Who's the father and the god mother?"

"Her and I." Toby says motioning to him and me.

"Come with me. We've got to get you two cleaned and put in the right coverings." Toby and I follow the doctor closely behind. He leads us to a room. "Wash your hands up to the elbow and count to ten when scrubbing then rinse it and put these on." He says motioning to two poncho looking things, a couple caps, and some gloves. "When you're done go to delivery room four. The nurse there, Luna, will lead you in and put you where you need to be."

We both nod and quickly wash our hands. I can see Toby's hands shaking as he is putting on the poncho. "Tob."

He looks to me. "Yeah."

"Breathe."

He nods and lets out a deep breath. "I'll try."

We put everything on then walk down the hall towards the different delivery rooms. When we get to number four, I see a girl with blonde hair standing outside. "Are you Toby and Lavender?"

I nod. "Yes."

"She won't let us do anything without you two here. That's how Dr. Williams knew to ask for you two specifically."

I chuckle. "Sounds like her."

Toby smiles slightly and shakes his head. "May we go in?"

She nods. "Of course. Come on." She leads us in and I see Rose laying in the bed looking up at the ceiling looking like she is in pain. Major pain. She looks up when she hears the doors open.
"Where the hell have you two been?" She asks holding her hands out. I take her right hand and sit on the right side of the bed. "We were at my father's. We left mom there."

"How is she?"

"Amazing. How are you?"

"I'm in labor." She flinches. "How do you think?"

I squeeze her hand lightly and Toby kisses her other one. The doctor walks back in. "Okay, can we start now?"

Rose nods.

Fifteen hours later, Rose is asleep and Toby and I are both holding one of the twins. I smile down at Jessica then look over at Toby. He is so focused on Michael that he doesn't even hear his mother come in. "Oh my gosh." She says quietly. Toby looks up and motions for her to be quiet. "Can I hold one?" She asks. I stand up and take Jessica to her. "This is Jessica." I say.

"Hey Jessica." She says looking down at her. I see Jesse standing at the doorway smiling slightly. I walk over to him.

"You look exhausted."

"I just witnessed my best friend give birth. What do you expect Jes?"

"True. Did you cut one of the umbilical cords?"

"I did Jessica's."

He smiles. "Toby looks so happy."

"He is."

"I haven't seen him this happy since his father and Michelle passed."

"I bet." I lean against the wall by Jesse.

"Jesse. Come here." Toby says.

Jesse looks up then walks to him. "Yes?"

"Do you want to hold Michael?"

"Can I?" Jesse says looking shocked.

Toby nods. "Of course. You're his uncle. You deserve to hold him." He says smiling.
