It's said that when you touch your soul mate the world bursts with colors. Everything seemed better, everything seemed right. Yet, it was also said that some Soulmates never clicked. It was one of everyone's biggest fears. I walked down the cold streets of New York in prospects that a puppy would fill the void that I had in my heart.

Can a dog be your soul mate? I bumped into several strangers, just to check. It was a normal thing for soulmate-less individuals to do. I walked into the dog breeder run pet store and browsed. It was extremely empty. Only a man and the owner occupied space.

"Tony, I already told you! I can't buy you every kitten in the store. No, you don't have to come over. I got it." I could tell by the tone of his voice that he was clearly struggling with the person on the phone.

I paused at an older dog's kennel. He was about ten, a yellow lab. Clearly, he's been here for a while by the way he didn't lift his head when I walked by. I smiled at the dog and read his information. I looked again at the pup and noticed that he was missing an eye. I nodded to myself and walked up to the owner.

"Hi, what can I do for you, Hon?" The kind old lady asked, her hand shaking slightly as she adjusted her glasses.

"I'd like to adopt today, if that's possible." I smiled as she nodded.

"Who did ya' choose Darlin'?" She asked as she walked out from behind the counter and stood in front of it.

"Arrow, the lab." I told her and she walked over to his cage.

"Ya' sure? I mean we have a good amount of puppies to choose from." She looked at me oddly before opening the cage door.

Arrow bounded out of his cage and tackled me. I obviously fell in love with this dog. The lady smiled at me and rang me up, Arrow stayed by my side, occasionally looking between the man and I. I crouched down next to him and placed a collar around his neck.

"You don't really look like an Arrow, you look like a Lucky." I mumbled as chuckle as Lucky licked my cheek.

"Okay Doll, the dog food delivery will be there in a day." She told me, I clipped on Lucky's leash and he ran to the man, tugging me with him.

I was paying so much attention to Lucky that I barely noticed the change. I grabbed his hand before I fell. My world burst into color with the skin on skin contact. He pulled me back up and we stared breathless at each other.

"Hi." I rasped.

"Hi." He gave me a half smile.

That was three years ago. We were the definition of a perfect couple. Never too touchy in public, never fought, never disagreed. It was amazing. We learned all the color names together and made up our own names for ones we didn't like. Everything was utterly perfect, until our three year anniversary. A knock sounded on the door, causing Lucky to bark.

"I got it!" I yelled at Clint, who was currently cooking lunch for our little family.

When I open the door I see a pregnant woman clutching two children's hands. She looked slightly older than me. Her oldest couldn't have been more than eight.

"Can I help you ma'am?" I smile at her.

"Is Clint Barton here?" She asks in a monotone voice, her children hiding behind her leg.

"Who's asking?" My smile flickers but I force it to stay plastered on my face.

"His wife and children." She stares into my eyes, dear God, she's telling the truth.

"I think we all need to have a talk." I usher them all in.

"Babe, who is it." Clint yells from the kitchen.

"Clint, we need to talk." His wife states and tells her children to play in the backyard, they do as their told with my nod of approval.

"H-hi." He stutters and runs to his wife, trying to block me form her view. "Laura I swear it's not what it looks like!"

"Then what is it?!" She yells, her arm flying out to point at me, her yell causing a wail to sound from the nursery.

"I got him." I look at my feet as I walk, hoping to stay way from the fight. "Hello, darling boy." I coo at my two year old son.

"Mummy. Loud." He looks up at me with watery eyes.

"I'm sorry baby. Are you all done napping?" I ruffle his brunette hair when he nods.

I take his hand as we walk back into the kitchen. They both stop bickering and stare at us. I hand my son, Alex, a plate and silverware so he can set his place at the table. He takes Lucky's bowl from it's place and puts it next to his highchair.

"You have a son." Laura whispers. "With her." She spat her words with venom, causing me to physically flinch.

"Don't you dare talk to her like that. She's my soul mate. It's about time I told you." Clint stands up for me and walks over to stand with me.

She bursts out crying when he tells her. Alex, being the loving boy he is, runs up to her and hugs her tight. He stays there until she clams down and finally hugs him back. He smiles up at her before running over to us.

"You never answered my question Laura, who's baby is that? I was gone for six months before you told me you were three months pregnant." Clint growls.

"Steve's, the others are my ex boyfriend Nick's." She looks at him with tears in her eyes. "I'm sorry."

"That's what I thought." He handed her a stack of papers. "All you need to do is sign and you keep everything, but you have to leave me and my family alone."

"Are you kidding me? I'm the best you're ever gonna be able to do." She scoffed, but still signed the divorce papers.

"Now get out of my house." Clint growled, clearly not wanting her negativity towards me to last any longer.

Thirty minutes later we were all eating in silence. Alex would look over at me and smile sadly. The only noise being made was Lucky who was walking between all of us begging for pizza.

"Why didn't you tell me." I whispered.

"I was going to break things off but then she was pregnant and then had a miscarriage. And then pregnant again. I couldn't leave her like that." He looked down at his food.

"I understand but, Alex, Lucky and I go stay with a friend for a while." I look at a smiling Alex.

"Yea. Just know I love you."

I packed a weeks worth of clothes. We were driving and singing along to the radio when Alex dropped his toy puppy. I didn't want Lucky to chew or so I leaned over to retrieve the lost toy. A horn sounded before I felt the impact of the truck.

Clint's POV

  ˏ₍•ɞ•₎ˎ

I felt a sharp pain in my chest. Something was wrong, my world was fading between colored and black and white. She's dying. Slowly and painfully. I could feel what she's going through. I ran, the adrenaline pump through me, I had to find her. She can't die, Alex can't die, hell, Lucky can't die. I heard a high pitched wail and a lone howl.

That was the day I went color blind.
