Ok so I don't usually do these but this is based on a song ( ill put the lyrics in the background) so I'm sorry if it's not great, this is the first time I've don't this sort of one shot

Now this is obviously male reader

So, this will be Y/n's and captains relationship throughout the army, and after the army however it will obviously have to be a secret relationship

As you can guess, this will be a very long chapter

You were being promoted, finally, you were promoted to Lieutenant!

You were called to The Captains office, to accept the promotion, you of course accepted it, you were fighting for your country but also because you'd been a soldier for a long time, you'd admired and dare you admit it... caught feelings for the C.O

Anyway

You headed up to The captains office, and knocked on the door

' COME IN' the captain yelled

You opened the door slowly and saw the captain sitting at his desk

He looked up from his paper work and said ' ah! Y/n! I suppose you're here about the promotion? '

You nodded and said ' Yes sir! '

' at ease. ' he said as he saw your stiff posture

You relaxed a little bit but not much, you were too excited

' now, from your face I can guess what your answer will be but I need to ask, do you accept the position of Lieutenant?' The captain asked

' I do sir! ' you said, a massive grin on your face

The captain nodded he then smiled at you, it was a tiny smile but a smile either way

It made your heart skip a beat

He then passed you some papers you needed to fill out to fully accept the position

You had now been Lieutenant for two years, it was April 1942, you and the captain had become very close, you'd been working on a prototype limpet mine, meaning you were working very closely together

It was currently 22:36 and you were about to head to bed when you noticed the light on in the captains office, you would have just walked passed and ignore it but you heard an annoyed grumble from inside his office

You decided to knock on the door, hearing his reply to allow you in, you walked in

' Lieutenant? A-at ease' he said

He needn't have said it, you weren't standing to attention and you were actually quite relaxed

' what're you doing up at this hour? ' he asked

' well I actually came to ask you the same sir' you said with a kind smile

He raised an eyebrow and said ' I'm doing paperwork Lieutenant, the war won't stop so I can sleep '
