A child!

Summary: you are a 9 year old child, you were working at button house as a cleaner when you died tragically

Obviously you died in the Victorian era ( Alison and Mike would never be happy with child labour .. I hope )

This is not an x reader or anything, it's just I love the idea of pat and captain being the fatherly roles in a child's life ( obviously there was Jemima but she seems to hate adults and she has the other plague ghosts )
And mainly because captain reminds me of my grandad so yeah... enjoy! 💕

Warnings: a bit of angst

This idea came to me while I was listening to ' work terrible work'

You had died at button house in the Victorian Era, you didn't know what year it had been as you were never taught how to read or write or even tell the time

You had been working since you were 4

You had died after trying to clean in a place that was dangerous you can pick where

So you had kind of hidden in the shadows until one day Alison accidentally stumbled into you

' I- oh my god- are you alright?!' She said thinking you were alive

' ... you can... see me? ' you said very quietly, scared by the adult

' of cou- wait are you dead? ' she asked quieter

All you did was nod making her gasp

' oh- I god ok, can you come with me please? ' she said

You, knowing never to disobey an adult, did as told

You followed her until you got to a big group of adults, you had never seen them before as you had hidden in a long forgotten room for years

' oh Alison I- ... who's that? ' kitty asked loudly making you flinch

Alison frowned and said ' I was here to ask you all the same thing, why on earth have I never seen them before! '

' we didnt even know they were here ' Julian said looking at you confused

' yeah, we haves never seens them before alson'  Mary said

You looked around frantically at all the adults who were staring at you

Pat looked at you sympathetically and then came a knelt down to your height and said ' hi, what's your name? '

You frowned for a second and then whispered ' My name is y/n Sir '

He smiled and said ' hi y/n, I'm Pat' he then went around the room pointing at each person ( to Fanny's disapproval because ' it's rude to point ')

After about five minutes you knew who everyone was

You were then invited to sit on the sofa

You looked warily at them all but did as told

Captain and Pat looked at each other worriedly multiple times

Captain , although he seemed very cold and scary to you, was worried about you, he hadn't ever really dealt with children but that didn't mean he didn't like children, if he could have had children and a life in the countryside with Havers then he would have

Anyway

They sat and waited for you to say something but you wouldn't, you had always been told to only speak when spoken to

Eventually Julian said ' ok, I'm bored now, how long have you been here kid? '

You looked up from your knees and quietly said ' I don't know '

Pat again looked at captain worriedly and then said ' well do you know how old you were when you... well you know... '

You stared at him for a minute before saying ' I- I'm not sure... maybe 8 or 9 '

You only knew it was one of the two because you had heard the people who you worked for talking about you and your age

Captain then stood up from his spot on the sofa and walked over to you making the other ghosts watch curiously

' ok, do you remember anything you wish to share?' He said surprising everyone

This was the man that bottled up everything and disliked talking about emotions

You stared at him before saying ' all- ... all I remember is cleaning [ pick place ] and then waking up and being alone... no one could see or here me sir '

Captain nodded and looked at pat for help as the others sat in shock that captain had managed to get that much information about you

Pat then came over to you again and said ' ok y/n, unless you want to tell us anything else, we won't question you anymore '

You looked at him, nodded and then looked back at your knees

That night you had been given a proper room with furniture and no dust

You fell asleep almost straight away and dreamt about nice things for the first time in years if not ever

Pat and Captain had been last to go to bed as they were up talking

' I'd guess they are from the Victorian times ' pat said

' yes... I agree with you there Patrick....'

Pat and captain sat quietly for a bit before pat said ' they really opened up to you... I think they like you '

Captain smiled softly at that, he never overly spent time with children but as I said before, that didn't mean he did not like them

' they obviously like you too Patrick, they did talk to you as well, I think Julian scared them a little bit '

Pat nodded

The two then sat in a comfortable silence until they both decided to go to their rooms
