. . .

I'd be lying if I said the waffles were bad. I'd also be lying if I said they were good. They were kind of soggy with all that syrup, but the crunch from the sprinkles kind of helped with that. I've never had a waffle that was soggy and crunchy at the same time. Plus there was whipped cream on top too. A beautiful catastrophe?

. . .

I connected my phone to the tv and pulled up youtube. "You've never heard of Grian?" I asked surprised. "No?" Karter said worriedly now, good, they should be. "Well, then we're going to be starting from episode one this season." I said putting the first episode on of this season.

We were on the first episodes of the season when I heard some walk-in.

"Tired of me already?" I head day say sitting next to me. "I mean you did just end your stream yesterday." I say looking at him. Karter looks over at him too. Dad smiles at us nervously.

"Whos this?" I hear mom say coming into the room and sitting next to Karter. Karter didn't try to move away, and they didn't seem uncomfortable. I smile in the direction of Karter and mom.

"Grian." Karter says answering Mom's question. "Isn't that the Minecraft Youtube you watch all the time?" She asks me. Dad looks at me confused. "Not all the time." I say. Dad ruffles my hair. "I'll try not to take offense." "Good." I say.

After the episode was over I disconnected my phone from the tv. Karter looks at me confused, like they were going to ask a question, but didn't.

"I have a question for you guys." I say looking at everyone around me. "Except you Karter." I add on. Karter smiles at me. I smile back for a brief moment before continuing.

"What was that call about earlier?" Mom freezes, Karter drops their smile and dad sighs.

"We have to go talk to him in person whether we can foster Karter or not." Das says. "Mr. John?" Dad mods his head. "Why go in person?" I ask. "So we can sort out the papers, and things. Only if you want us to foster you, Karter." Mom says.

Karter looks at dad surprised. Then looks at me surprised. They look at mom who sat next to them and hugs her. Mom hugged back. She looms happily she got their approval. That made me happy, seeing them hug, Karter being the one to show their affection. I'm happy they're warming up to mom and dad.

"I take that as a yes." Mom laughs. Karter breaks the hug and looks at her with a smile. "Yes please, thanks." They look over at dad. "Thank you too." "Of course." Dad says. "We know your not a bad kid." "And I'm already getting attached." Mom giggles for a moment.

Karter looks between everyone at the couch with teary eyes. They look between mom, dad, and me. I smile at Karter.

"We should probably leave soon." Dad said standing up. Mom stood up. "Already?" I asked. Didn't they just get the call today? "Our friend works fast." Dad smiled at me. Mom gave me a brief hug before leaving the living room. "Behave." She said nicely.

.   .   .

"So, wanna watch another video? Or we can also go upstairs to play Minecraft on my computer again." I suggested.

"Who was that John guy that called?" Karter asked. I was afraid they would ask. I sighed. Guess I have to tell them eventually.

"He was someone who helped me out when I was still a foster kid. Kinda like a friend in that place." I said the line I kept repeating to myself for when this day came. I want as nervous about telling Karter as I thought I would be. "I guess dad saved his number so now Mr. John is helping us?" I said not sure, but by what mom and dad said I was pretty sure now.

"That's good you knew someone there." Karter smiled at me making my final worries about the topic disappear. "You know I was fostered right?" Karter hummed. "Yeah, I just found out." They smiled cheekily at me. "You're not going to question it?" I asked surprised.

"I'm technically one to so who am I to ask." Karter laughed for a breed second. "Plus I kinda had my suspicions." "Huh?" I was confused now.

"Well Philza is your dad. He and Kristen haven't even been married for ten years, so of course, you're adopted. Wait, that sounded good. Shoot, sorry." Karter Buckley apologized thinking they offended me.

I laughed while Karter looked at me confused and some worry. "I should have known you'd put it together that easily. Guess it was kind of obvious." "No." Karter quickly sad.

"I thought you all had known each other for a long time. Guessing by the time you joined the school you haven't even known them for a year. It just seemed like you got along so well." Karter said their thoughts. We really seemed like that? We seemed like a family before I was officially adopted? I smiled to myself. "Or maybe that's just what it seemed like to me because I never got along with my parents." Karter mumbled the last part but I still heard them.

I pulled Karter into a side hug. "Well now your a part of our family." I said making sure Karter knew. "Even if, and it's a big if, they can't foster you, you'll still be family. You're already finding your way here." "Thanks Alex, you are my family too."

I don't think I've hugged Karter this much when we went to school together. Maybe it's because of all that's happening that's making us hug more. Whatever it is I don't want to give up hugging Karter. I don't want to give up Karter in general. No matter if we can foster them or not.
