Captain Marvel had a spare minute when Fury called her. She had just dealt with a disturbance on a planet not too far away so she had time to come and see her friend. He had an odd request but she thought she should at least meet the kid before she took off again.

"Hey," Carol said, walking up behind the blonde assassin as Vienna waited for her hair to dry properly after washing the blood out of it, "so space huh?"

"You're Fury's friend?" Vienna asked, looking up at Carol who was smiling down at her, "you look like a golden retriever."

"Thanks, I guess," Carol chuckled, sitting down on the wall next to Vienna, "so what brings you up here? Just the view?"

"It's quiet," Vienna told her, "everything in there can be overwhelming."

Carol nodded, she got that. She spent a lot of her time alone when travelling through space so when she was around a lots of people again it could be exhausting.

"Your dad seems nice," Carol said, leaning over and giving Vienna a nudge on the shoulder, "I think he thought I was captain America at first but we got there in the end."

"Yes, he's a Rogers fan boys," Vienna sighed having heard all his 'tales' about captain America.

"You're pretty hard to talk to you know that," Carol tried to gain eye contact with Vienna as she just stared off the top of the building.

"No one usually wants to talk to me," she shrugged, "they tend to talk at me so it hasn't been an issue."

"So, Fury called me," Carol told her, getting back to what she went to see her for, "and told me you and your sister wanted to go to space. Do you guys have beef with an alien?"

"No, well, maybe a little," Vienna chuckled, "we want to go to Vormir, for our sister. She died there and we never got to say goodbye. I don't want to leave her there."

"Nobody did," Carol said, her tone dropping from its usual preppy note, "your sister was a hero, she saved us all. You know, I had the same thought when I found out about her death. Nothing would make it go away I had to check, I went to Vormir. She's not there, all I saw was some grumpy red guy telling me that the soul stone wasn't there anymore."

Vienna got quiet. She could only stared down over the edge of the building. Her whole livelihood shaking in Carol's words.

"I'll take you," Carol reassured her, "because I know my word means nothing to you right now. I just want you to be prepared for what's there, or rather what isn't."

Vienna nodded. She had to see it for herself. She had to ask for her sister back, even if it meant an answer she didn't want. Because if she didn't and it was an answer she did want, then she wouldn't be able to go on. Every step would feel like betrayal.

"Hey kid," Carol said as she stood back up to leave, "you're going to fight a war right?"

"Something like that," Vienna said, not turning to look up at her.

"I've got a call on a system not too far away, and I've gotta come back for you and your sister anyway," Carol smiled, kneeling down again and pulling something out of her belt, "if it gets too hairy out there, give me a call and I'll come back early. Give you a hand, promise."

Carol handed her a small black box with a button on the top.

"And remember," Carol told her as Vienna took the box, "this is a safety net and a safety net isn't where you wanna land, you wanna land on your feet."

Vienna nodded, glancing up at Carol for a second and then looking back down at the box again.

"Emergencies only, I'm a busy woman," Carol called back as she walked away from her.

"I got it."
