chapter 64
———

Third Person POV
"Class, I have some good news for most of you!" Mr. Lockhart spoke, stopping the chatter. "As most of you may have known, the seniors won't be having anymore tests for the rest of the semester. So to reward the ones who have appealing GPA's, they will no longer have to come to the rest of their scheduled classes unless to present projects or for other upcoming events."

"Oh, shit!" Isaac mumbled.

"Shhh!" Sofia mumbled.

"—Except for the nine people from table one, I am happy to say that you are all free from your overall classes and are free to leave the school premises if you please" Mr. Lockhart smiled. "Just remember to come back to class on the final day of school to present your projects. And as always, it has been an honor to have been your ELA teacher this year. I hope you all have a happy Spring Break!"

"YEAAAAAAH!"
"WOOOOOO!"

Everyone got out their seats, running out of Mr. Lockhart's classes.

"Oh my god, am I dreaming?" Xena asked.

"Nope, it's real" Isaac answered. "We're actually free from class!"

"Is it really okay to just....not show up to our classes?" Emma asked. "I mean there are nine other students in there so—"

"Emma, are you forgetting that you came to this school as a senior?" Zane asked. "Seriously, I know you're all about grades and what not but you need to focus on things that don't always involve academics."

"But..." Emma mumbled.

"Relax, shortie." Lucas threw his arm over Emma's shoulder. "There's nothin' that you'll miss now that we haven't already learned."

Emma pouted slightly. "...I guess you're right."

Suddenly, the intercom came on.

"ZANE MILLER, REPORT YO THE OFFICE! IMMEDIATELY!"

"Um...you expecting a pickup?" Isaac asked.

"No" Zane furrowed his eyebrows. "But I guess I'll find out."

The group followed behind Zane as they walked to the office. Zane's feet stopped abruptly as they reached the front of the door. His smile slowly faded into gritted teeth as his eyes slanted into slits. Even Lucas, Nathan, and Jane had stood there with annoyed glares.

Standing in the office was a blonde haired woman who looked to be the same height as Trinity, only with white stilettos on. Her skin looked wrinkled and pale as her figure was slimmer than any average forty year old woman.

"Wait, why'd you stop?" Isaac asked.

"Huh?" The woman turned around. "There you are, Zane! You really have some nerve, having me come to your school to—"

"I don't wanna hear it" Zane spoke, cutting the woman off.

"Zane—"

"I meant what I said before" Zane glared. "Just because you show up wrinkled and frail, doesn't mean I will forgive you for what you did. So it's either you leave right now or I press charges."

"Zane, you can't honestly hold me accountable for what I did in the past!" The woman argued. "I-I was young, stupid even, but I never meant to cause anything malicious. Please, you have to believe me."

"I warned you" Zane said. "Sin, call Miss Lillian."

Nathan didn't waste any time as he pulled out his phone, seemingly calling his mother.

"Guys, we're leaving" Jane said. "Come on, Zane!"

Zane turned around, letting Jane direct him away from the office as he continued to stare at the woman.

"I'll see you in court sooner or later" Zane added. "Til then, goodbye, Alisha. And this time, I mean it."

The group then exited out the school from the front door.

"Okay, time out" Emma said. "Zane, are you gonna explain what I just witnessed? Or will you get Sin, Jane, and Lucas to do it?"

Zane didn't even turn around as he kept his balled fists shoved in his pocket, noticeably glaring at nothing in particular.

"Hello? Will you or will you not?" Emma asked. "You can't expect me

Zane grit his teeth. "Shut up!"

Emma was taken a back, her eyes widening in shock.

"Just...SHUT UP AND LEAVE ME ALONE!" Zane ran from the group, running down the school's lawn.

He didn't know where he was going but he just ran, seeing his memories flood back to him in a agonizingly slideshow.

"Zane, stop!" Jane chased after him.

Lucas and Nathan also ran down the lawn to catch up with their

Emma bit her lip, her fists clenching as the words rung in her eyes. She hated feeling emotional but the words stung her to the extent where tears started prickling the corners of her eyes.

"Emma, please don't take it personally" Xena pleaded. "He probably—"

Emma didn't wait to listen to the rest of Xena's words as she ran back into the school, hurrying to the bathroom before any tears slipped out.

"Xena, could you go get Emma and come to the parking lot? I'll take you two home" Sofia asked.

"S-Sure." Xena ran back into the school.

"Well, ain't that just pleasant?" Sofia bitterly said. "Two days of bitterness just before Spring Break. What a shit way to end the year. Come on, Isaac."

Sofia started walking down the walkway, throwing her bag over her shoulder. When Sofia didn't hear his footsteps, she stopped.

"Well, what're you waiting for?" Sofia asked.

"Are you...seriously gonna act like yesterday didn't happen?" Isaac asked. "Are you really not gonna tell me what that was all about?"

"Look, it was nothing—"

"IT WAS NOTHING, MY ASS!" Isaac yelled. "We've known each other since we were kids in elementary school. How, why would you trust Olivia with something so personal and not me?!"

Sofia sighed. "Isaac, yesterday's topic is something that I don't wanna relive until I'm ready to."

Sofia then stared him dead in his eyes, her smile still gone, her green eyes darker and soulless than usual.

"I know this upsets you, but you don't understand just how much it upsets me more thinking about...him." Sofia grabbed her right wrist. "If you really want me to give you my consent to keep this secret like I did with Olivia, then start by being patient."

Isaac glared at her.

Sofia continued walking down, not even waiting for him to walk with her this time. Eventually, he followed after her in complete and utter silence as Xena came back with Emma.
