Tessa's POV

After we had dinner at Christian's house, we stayed a little with them and then we went back home.

"I have something to work for tomorrow."

"Really? You don't want to spend some time with me?"

"I'm sorry, but I really have to send a review until tomorrow. This will take two or three hours. You can watch a movie."

"Are you mad at me? Since we arrived from Christian, you are cold with me."

"No, I'm still tired after our flight. Don't worry, I will be fine tomorrow."

"Ok, I believe you."

"Make yourself at home."

"Home is where are you, love." He comes to me and he lifts up my chin so I can look directly into his eyes. "I love you, Tess."

"I love you."

A few days later...

I'm dying to ask him about a potential future and I will ask him right now.

"Hardin?" I say while I sit on the bed.

"Yes baby?"

"I want to ask you something."

"Ok, I'm listening."

"What do you want from me?"

"I don't understand the question. What do you mean?"

"I mean: what do you want from me? Where you see us in the future?"

"In New York, you being a teacher and me, a well-known writer. Why?"

"Without kids, without marriage? Just a long relationship without papers or anything?"

"Ok... What's wrong with this? Marriage is just a paper. It doesn't change the love between us and kids... we had this discussion before. I don't want kids. That's all."

"So... you are staying with me just for sex?"

"Of course, not! But I don't see the idea of a wedding. If you want a ring, I can buy you hundreds, but that document... It's just a piece of paper. If two people love each other, that document doesn't matter."

"Ok, good." I try to not cry.

"Why are you asking this? You know that I am right."

"No. Maybe for someone that paper means something."

"Oh, don't tell me that you believe in marriage, Tess..."

"Let's end the discussion here. It's not the right time to talk about kids and marriage." I stand up and I take my pillow.

"Where are you going?"

"I'm going to sleep on the couch tonight."

"What? Why?"

"I want to be alone after this... Please, don't come after me." I sob and I leave the room and I put my pillow on the couch. I lay on the couch and I try to not cry, but... I can't. I'm glad because he didn't come after me.

Hardin's POV

When I woke up next morning, Tess is not home anymore. I think she's mad after our discussion from last night. But I told her the truth, because if I would've lie her, she would have false hopes. I take a quick shower and I get dress. It's almost 11 am and I bet she's at work, so I'm going to surprise her. I want to make up with her. On my way to the publishing house, I stop at a flower shop and I buy a beautiful bouquet of roses. These are her favorite flowers and she will like it.
