Chapter 32

Scott wakes up and looks at the clock 10:00 am. He looks down at Aurora. She is sound asleep curled up with her arm over his stomach and her head on his chest. He smiles. He doesn't want to wake her by getting up. He is also afraid of her having a bad dream if he gets up. He watches her sleep for a while then looks up and sees Willow walking in.
"Good morning," she says
"Morning."
"Has she slept all night?"
"Yes. I was going to get up but I was afraid she would have a bad dream if I move."
"She might not."
"True, but I hate to move and then she does. I was going to fix breakfast."
"I can fix some. That way you won't have to get up."
"Alright."
Willow walks into the kitchen.
"Is waffles okay?"
"Sure."
Scott looks down at Aurora. He smiles and kisses her head. Just then Aurora's phone rings. He picks it up. He sees it is the counselor. He answers.
"Hello."
"Oh, Scott. I was calling to schedule another appointment."
"Sure. Aurora is asleep and I hate to wake her."
"Well glad she's sleep. Do I need to call back or do you want to schedule an appointment for her?"
"I can schedule one."
"Does Friday at 1:00 work?"
"Yes that works."
"Okay. I will see you then."
Scott hangs up. He can't believe Aurora is still asleep. He thought for sure the phone would have woken her up. A few minutes later Willow walks in.
"She is still asleep?"
"Yep."
"Wow. She hasn't slept like that in a long time."
"I know. That's why I hate to wake her."
"Well the waffles are ready."
"Alright I will wake her then."
Willow walks back into the kitchen. Scott moves a piece of her hair back from her face.
"Baby," he says rubbing her back. He leans down and kisses her softly. She opens her eyes.
"Good morning baby."
"Morning. What time is it?"
"After 10."
"Really?" She sits up but still has an arm around him.
"Yeah."
"Wow. I was really out."
"Yes you were. I didn't want to wake you, you were sleeping so well but Willow has waffles ready."
"Okay."
Aurora looks into Scott's blue eyes.
"Thank you."
"For what?"
"Being here, letting me sleep next to you."
Scott smiles. "Anytime baby. I love you." He kisses her then stands up and pulls her up into his arms.
"Let's go get breakfast."
He gives her a quick kiss and they walk into the kitchen. They sit at the island and eat waffles.
"So, what are your plans for the day?" Willow asks.
"Well at some point we are heading to the bar," Aurora says looking at Scott. "Are you working today?"
"Yes, I am going in at 6:00."
"Oh, so you will be home late?"
"Probably. What time are you going to the bar?"
Aurora looks at Scott.
"I was thinking 3? I need to run home and take Fred out and take care of a few things."
"Sounds good."
"I will go ahead and head out now. I will be back around 3 to pick you up," Scott says
"Oh okay."
Scott stands up and kisses Aurora. "Love you Baby. See you later."
Aurora smiles. "See you later."
Scott then heads out the door.
"You two are cute. Why won't you say I love you back?"
"I'm not ready to say it."
"But you feel the same don't you?"
"I think so, but I'm scared."
Aurora stands up and grabs the dishes.
"I will wash since you cooked."
"Thanks. I will be back."
Aurora cleans up the kitchen then calls Chris. He answers on the first ring.
"Well hey beautiful."
"Hey. What are you up to?"
"Nothing really. I have the day off so just relaxing with Dodger."
"I don't go in until 3. Want to meet up?"
"Sure. What were you thinking?"
"I don't know. Just hang out. Maybe the park."
"Sounds good. I can come get you."
"Alright, let me just get a quick shower."
"Okay 15 minutes?"
"Yes."
"Alright. See you in a bit."
Aurora hangs up and heads to the bathroom after she grabs her clothes. On the way she runs into Willow.
"Who were you talking to?"
"Chris. We are going to the park."
"Oh. Okay."
Aurora takes a quick shower. After she is dressed she applies a little make up then after she brushes her hair she gets a text.
Chris- here
Aurora- come on in. I am almost ready
Aurora grabs her coat and has just headed into the living room when there was a knock
"Hey Chris."
"Hey beautiful. You ready?"
"Yep. Willow I'm gone!"
Aurora follows Chris to his car. He opens her door then after she is in he closes it and gets in the drivers side and pulls away.
"So how are you?" Chris asks
"I'm good. How was your Christmas and New Years?"
"It was good. It was good to be with my family."
"Yeah me too. I didn't want to leave. It was good to be able to see my dad. My mom said he isn't doing well."
"I'm sorry."
Chris pulls up to the park.
"Do you want to walk around?" Chris asks
"Sure."
They get out and start walking.
"So, what did you want to tell me?" Chris asks
Aurora stops walking.
"Scott told me he loved me."
Chris stops and looks at her.
"Wow. Well that's great."
"I couldn't say it back."
"Why not?"
"I don't know. I'm scared. I...he told me it was okay to take my time but..."
"But?"
"I don't know. I'm scared Chris. I have never felt this way before. What if I mess it up?"
"Hey, don't think that way. You won't. Scott cares about you a lot. Say it when your ready."
"But what if..."
"What is it?"
"I don't know. Something is stopping me from saying it."
"What's stopping you?"
"I don't know. I'm just scared."
Chris hugs her. "It will be okay beautiful. Scott knows. He understands he will wait. Say it when your ready."
"Why is it so hard?"
"Well those are powerful words and you should only say it when you truly mean it."
"Yeah. I know I do. I just..."
Just then Chris's phone goes off. He pulls it out of his pocket and looks down at it.
"Has your phone gone off?" Chris asks Aurora.
"No why?"
"Scott asked me if I had heard from you. He said you weren't answering your phone."
"What?"
Aurora looks through her purse and her pockets.
"Oh no. I left it at my apartment. What time is it?"
"2:30."
"Already? How did it get so late? Can I use your phone to call Scott?"
"Sure," he hands her the phone. She swipes the screen.
"Uh...what's your passcode?"
"Oh it's Dodger."
"Should have figured that," Aurora smiles
She unlocked it and calls Scott.
"Hey man, where..."
"Hey Scott. It's me."
"Oh, hey baby. Why are you using Chris's phone?"
"I left my phone at the apartment by accident. I met up with Chris. We are at the park."
"Oh, okay. Are you ready to head to the bar?"
"Yeah.."
"Okay. I am on my way to your apartment."
"Okay we will head there now."
"Okay see you soon."
Aurora hangs up and hands the phone to Chris.
"Can you take me home?"
"Sure."
They walk to his car and climb in. It doesn't take them long to get there. He pulls up.
"Thanks Chris."
"Your welcome." He smiles
"I am so glad I have you to talk to."
Chris smiles again, "anytime. See you later beautiful." He leans in and kisses her cheek
"See you later."
Aurora gets out just as Scott pulls up. She waves at Chris and he drives off as Scott walks up to her.
"Hey baby."
"Hey. I'm sorry."
"What are you sorry for? You have nothing to be sorry for. It happens."
Aurora stands up on her tip toes and kisses him.
"Let me just go grab my phone and I am ready to go."
"I will walk with you."
Scott takes her hand and they walk into her apartment. Willow is at the island playing on her phone.
"Hey, your phone has been going off."
"I know. I left it by mistake." Aurora picks it up and puts it in her purse.
"Okay I'm ready to go."
Scott and Aurora head to his truck then drive to the bar. It is already busy. Scott and Aurora get right to work.
"How was your Christmas?" Misty asks Aurora.
"It was good. How about yours?"
"It was okay. My boyfriend broke up with me."
"Oh I'm sorry."
"Yeah it was so unexpected. He did it on Christmas too."
"Oh girl. I'm so sorry."
"Yeah. I hope yours was better."
"Yeah. I got to see my family."
"That's good. Did you see Scott on Christmas?"
"No but I saw him a few days after and New Years."
"Oh okay."
Hours passed and Misty left and Aurora kept working hard. Then before she knew it, it was 2:30 am. Scott came up to her.
"Baby, you ready to go?"
"Is is 2:00 already?"
"It's actually 2:30."
"Oh. Yeah. Do I need to clean the tables?"
"I already did it."
"Oh okay. Let me grab my purse."
Aurora grabs her purse from the back and Scott locks up and they walk to his truck. He helps her in then climbs in and drives to her apartment.
"I forgot to tell you, you have an appointment with Amanda Friday at 1:00."
"Okay. Are you going with me?"
"Yes."
Scott pulls up at her apartment. He walks her to the door.
"I will see you tomorrow. I will pick you at 12:00 pm."
"Alright."
"Goodnight baby. I love you."
Aurora smiles. "Goodnight."
Scott kisses her. "Try to get some sleep."
"I'll try."
After Aurora is inside Scott leaves. The next few days pass. Aurora wakes up every night from a nightmare. She calls Scott every time. At work Aurora stays busy but is tired and messes up a few times. Scott notices. He is really worried about her.
Friday Scott tells Misty he is leaving early and asks if she can stay late and lock up. She agrees.
"Thanks."
"No problem."
"Just call me if you need anything."
"Will do."
Scott walks up to Aurora who is drying a glass.
"Baby."
"Scott! You scared me," she says jumping almost dropping the glass, but Scott catches it.
"Sorry. You ready?"
"Yeah."
They walk to his truck and drive to the counselors office in silence. Scott takes her hand.
"It will be okay."
"I know."
They walk into the building together. Amanda greets them at the door.
"Aurora, Scott. Good to see you. Aurora can I talk to you alone for a few minutes?"
Aurora looks at Scott.
"I will wait for you right here," he kisses her. "I love you."
Aurora follows Amanda in.
"Have a seat." Aurora sits on the couch.
"Can I get you a drink?"
"No thank you."
Amanda sits in the chair across from Aurora.
"So, how has it been going? Have you gotten any sleep?"
"No."
"None? When I called the other day Scott said you were asleep."
"I only sleep when he's around."
"Oh I see. Did you try the music?"
"Yes. It worked at first but then as soon as I was asleep I had the dreams."
"I see."
They talked a few more minutes then she has Scott join them. He sat beside Aurora.
"Scott, Aurora said she only sleeps when she's with you."
"Yes. We have fallen asleep watching movies and when that happens she sleeps the whole night, but one time I got up to fix breakfast and she had a dream.
"I see."
"My dad told me to pray about them."
"Oh? That's a good idea. It didn't work?"
"No, but he said I had to keep praying that it may not happen right away."
"True it may not. Keep trying that. Try reading a good story before you sleep and imagine good thoughts. Maybe we that will help. If I think of anything else I will let you know. Why don't we meet in two weeks and see how things go?"
Just then Scott's phone rings. He looks at it.
"Sorry. I need to take this. Be right back."
Scott steps out in the hall.
"Misty, what's up?"
"He's here."
"What? Who?"
"The man who attacked Aurora. He's at the bar."
"What? Are you sure?"
"Yes I'm pretty sure it's him."
"Okay. Thanks for letting me know."
"Welcome."
Scott hangs up and calls Chris.
"Hey."
"Hey man. I need a favor."
"Sure. What's up?"
"I just got a call from Misty and she said the man who attacked Aurora is at the bar. Can you go check it out? I'm with Aurora at the counselors office."
"Sure. What do you want me to do?"
"Just watch and make sure  nothing happens. Call me if you need me."
"Will do."
"Thanks."
"Welcome."
Scott hangs up and walks back in and sits next to Aurora. She looks at him.
"Everything okay?"
"Yes," he kisses her head.
"Scott we agreed to meet in two weeks at the same time."
"Alright. Is there anything she needs to do?"
"No, just try to sleep. Think good thoughts before bed. Read a book and keep praying. If I think of anything I will let her know."
"Okay."
They stand up. "Just call if you need anything."
"Will do."
"See you in two weeks."
Scott and Aurora walk hand in hand to his truck. He helps her in then climbs in. He starts the engine.
"Are we heading to the bar?"
"No."
"We aren't?"
"No. Would you like to come back to my house?"
Aurora looks at Scott confused. "Uh...sure. I guess. Is everything okay?"
Scott pulls out of the parking lot and says, "yes." He takes her hand and rubs his thumb along the back of her hand. It is quiet the whole way to his house. He parks and they head inside.
"Make yourself at homes I will be right back."
Scott walks into his bedroom and pulls out his phone. He sees he has a text.
Chris- he tried to attack Misty, but I stopped him. He got mad and left the bar.
Scott- so he's gone?
Chris- yeah he left pretty angry
Scott- okay thanks
Chris- welcome
Scott walks back into the living room. Aurora is on the couch. He sits down next to her.
"Is everything okay?"
"Yes baby. Everything is fine."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. Don't worry." He kisses her
"Why didn't we go back to the bar?"
"I thought you needed a break and I wanted to spend sometime with you."
"That's sweet but I'm fine."
"I know you're tired. You made mistakes you don't normally make."
"Scott..."
"Aurora baby please. Don't argue with me on this."
"Fine!"
Aurora stands up.
"Where are you going?"
"Bathroom."
Aurora leaves the room. Scott sighs. A few minutes later Aurora walks back to the couch. Scott is watching tv.
"There you are."
Aurora sits down to him.
"What are you watching?"
"I don't know. I just turned it on. Is there something you would like to watch?"
"Whatever you want."
Aurora pulls her legs up on the couch and lays her head on them.
"Baby, what's wrong?"
"Nothing."
"BS. Tell me please."
"I'm scared."
"Of what?"
"Going to sleep. It doesn't matter what I do. I close my eyes and I see him."
"Come here," Scott says holding out his arm.
Aurora slides closer to him and wraps her arms around brim and lays her head on his chest. He rubs her arm.
"It will be okay. Why don't you stay here tonight?"
"What!" Aurora sits up and looks at him.
"Stay here tonight."
"I can't!"
"Why?"
"Because we...I..."
"Baby relax. Nothing will happen I promise. You don't have to worry."
"But...I...I...I don't have any clothes here."
"I can find you something."
"But..."
"Relax. It will be okay. This way I know you will get some sleep."
"But I..."
Scott leans in and kisses her to shut her up.
"Relax baby. Breathe. It's okay."
Aurora bites her lower lip.
"You are so cute when you do that." He kisses her again. They curl up on the couch and watch a movie. They later order a pizza. They have finished and Aurora is almost asleep on Scott's chest when there is a knock on the door.
"Are you expecting anyone?" Aurora asks looking at him.
"No. Are you?"
"No."
Scott goes to the door and looks through the hole. He can't believe who he sees standing on the other side.
