The car ride to my house was as awkward as ever, or maybe it was just for me. Because I'm alone with my best friend's crush.

This time, when I went up to my room to get my laptop, he didn't follow, which I was glad for. For an hour, we worked on our essay. Wait, let me correct what I just said. I worked on the essay, and him, sometimes helped but mostly being unbearably annoying.

"Lau-ra," he dragged out my name, "I'm boredddddddd."

"There's just three more pages left! We can finish this today." I tried to encourage him, wanting to get it done as soon as possible.

"That's so much!" He whined.

"Come on," I groaned, "hadn't you annoy me enough already?"

"Nope." He said, popping the p.

"Fine you can leave." I said, annoyed that we couldn't finish it today like how I had planned. I checked the time and it's only 5.

"But I don't wanna go, I'm too comfortable in here." He said as he snuggled up on my couch.

"Get up." I scowled at him.

"Hey stop scowling, it make your pretty face into an ugly one." He commented.

I rolled my eyes at his attempt to flirt.

"My mother is going to be home soon." I said as I tried to find excuses so he can leave.

Then my phone chimed, telling me that there's a message, I checked it and I groaned.

Laura, dad and I won't be home for dinner, he had a meeting and we will eat dinner later. So eat by yourself, or with Maya. Love you.

I replied,

Ok mom, love you too.

"Looks like your mother and father won't be home anytime soon." He murmured down my ear, close enough to ring my warning bell. I hoped he didn't notice my sharp inhaled of breath.

"Hey! I didn't give you permission to read my message, it's private!" I scolded him, while putting some distance between us on the couch.

"Yeah, whatever." He rolled his eyes at me, unfazed by it.

Suddenly he looked at me, thinking for a moment then said brightly, "Maybe we can have dinner together!"

"No I will just ask Maya." I quickly shot it down.

"Come on you should get to know your partner!" He whined again. Oh my god he is so annoying. How can Maya likes him?

I ignored him and texted Maya,

Hey wanna have dinner together?

She replied a few seconds later,

Urgh sorry, family dinner😒

Oh.

Oh indeed. Great I might have to have dinner with Asher. This is getting cliché, at least we are not falling for each other.

"So, dinner?" He promoted, looking at me with a smirk.

"Fine, but on one condition, we finish the essay today." I bribed him.

He groaned loudly, "Deal."

So we worked as efficiently as possible for two more hours.

"Finally! God I'm so hungry! Can we go now?" He asked impatiently, somehow already at the door.

I nodded, I put away the laptop and notes, tidied up the living room. Got my wallet, keys and phone and walked towards Asher who was standing in the doorway, tapping his foot impatiently.

"Hurry up!" He urged me.

"Okay," I said exasperatedly as I put on my sneakers, and locked the door.

He sighed loudly at my pace and started to drag me by the arm towards his car.

Once we were inside and he started the engine, I asked him, "Where are we going?"

"The Chinese restaurant that's near our school?" He suggested.

I nodded.

The drive was 10 minutes, but it seemed longer than that, he turned on the radio to break the silence. Then Shawn Mendes' song, Stitches came on.

I bobbed my head up and down along with the music, lip syncing it, since my voice wasn't that great.

Asher on the other hand, sang loudly, " I thought that I've been hurt before. But no one's ever left me quite this sore. Your words cut deeper than a knife. Now I need someone to breathe me back to life."

Oh my god his voice is not bad, at all, it's deep and smoothing, it's so mesmerizing. I found myself staring at him dreamily as he sang.

"Got a feeling that I'm going under.
But I know that I'll make it out alive.
If I quit calling you my lover.
Move on."

I sighed unconsciously, guys who could sing is so hot. I kept staring at him, he didn't seem to notice, which I guess I should be happy about.

"You watch me bleed until I can't breathe, shaking.
Falling onto my knees.
And now that I'm without your kisses.
I'll be needing stitches.
Tripping over myself, aching.
Begging you to come help.
And now that I'm without your kisses.
I'll be needing stitches."

Then he stopped abruptly and I was pulled out of my trance.

He finally noticed me staring at him and a blush slowly crept up onto his cheeks. Aww so cute.

"What?" He asked, avoiding eye contact with me.

"Wow, your voice, you can sing." I said, too stunned by his amazing voice, to give a smart reply.

"I know, I have an amazing voice," he said cockily, titling his head at me.

Just like that he turned from cute to annoying.
