You sat in the back of the limo with Veronica and Betty. It was a frigid night and even inside the vehicle you hugged your heavy gray jacket tightly around you. Jughead was going to be meeting you at the party since you wouldn't have been able to wear this dress on his motorcycle. You felt desperately nervous the whole ride there. Did you look ridiculous? Would he judge you in this dress? You glanced at Betty. It was the first time you could remember her hair being down. She was wearing more makeup than usual, her costume way more revealing than you ever thought would be her style. Veronica looked sophisticated as always, a magician's assistant a seemingly perfect role for her.

You saw Jughead leaning against an iron gate as you pulled into the driveway for Thornhill. It had only been three days since you last saw him, but you couldn't help but make a quick stride right to him. He smiled when he saw you.

"Hey."

"Hey."

His face was virtually back to normal, aside from a very faint purple that outlined his right eye. He drew you into a solid hug, placing a gentle kiss on your cheek. You absolutely treasured his new way of greeting you. The walkway to Thornhill was festooned with glowing jack-o'-lanterns, as well as skeletons seemingly emerging from the ground.

"Jackets." Cheryl bellowed inside the foyer, pointing to a large coat room to the left. She wore an audacious sexy devil outfit. You noticed Jughead had opted for his cozier denim jacket over the Serpent jacket that night. You took off your jacket self-consciously, your dress being more ostentatious than anything you normally wore. Jughead was wearing a cobalt collared shirt and suspenders, he looked absolutely dashing. He hooked his arm with yours and you proceeded into the drawing room.

You both took a seat on a vacant red velvet chaise near the fireplace as more people arrived. Jughead sat as close to you as possible, and it felt amazing. He pointed to the alien ring and smiled. Then brought the hand to his mouth, placing a good-natured kiss upon it. He then intertwined your fingers in his and stared into the fireplace assiduously. What was going on? Had the universe pivoted on its axis? Was it somehow possible he liked you as more than a friend? Or was he just being goofy?

Chuck and two other football players walked by.

"Look at these freaks. Holding hands and shit." Chuck snickered. The two jocks with him guffawed as if it was the funniest thing they'd ever experienced. Jughead rolled his eyes and pulled you up, leading you into the kitchen. He went straight to a tray of deviled eggs adorned with olives, popping one in his mouth.

"Do you want some of this ghoulish punch?" He pointed to a punch bowl filled with a dark burgundy liquid garnished with gummy worms.

"Sure."

He grabbed two cups, using the orange ladle to fill them. He handed you your cup and held his out. "Happy Halloween." He smirked

You clunked your glass to his. "Happy Halloween."

He took a small sip and set his on the counter in front of him

He took a small sip and set his on the counter in front of him. Suddenly his hand was on the small of your lower back. You looked at him and you swear you saw him glance at your lips. Were you just delusional because you wanted it so badly? He turned away as Reggie entered the kitchen wearing a skeleton costume, black and white face paint masking his features. He went straight to the punchbowl and downed a cup before refilling it, eyeing you both cynically, before disappearing back into the main room.

"Jughead!" Archie called from the hallway. He wore a stereotypical Viking outfit, complete with a horned helmet on his head.

"Archie." Jughead eyed him derisively.

"I'm glad you made it. We've all been thinking about you."

He nodded before putting another deviled egg in his mouth.

"How's the new school man?"

"Pretty good." He took another sip of his punch.

"Cheryl's giving out blood orange mojitos. Come join the party. The food will still be here later Jug." Archie jested.

"Ha ha." Jughead replied dryly.

You reentered the drawing room to see that the lights had been dimmed. There was Halloween dance music playing and several strobe lights going off. Several more costumed partygoers had arrived. You and Jughead headed further away from the music so you could hear each other. Moments later, a figure in an eerie goblin mask approached you and Jughead, handing you each a small slip of burgundy paper.

You are invited to a very special game. Only those who hold this ticket will be allowed inside. Go through the library. Follow the orange garland and you will soon find your way.

"Oh geez. This looks like an invitation from either the Black Hood or Cheryl, and at this point I don't know which would be worse."

You laughed, grabbing his arm and leading him towards the library.

"Okay, so we're actually doing this." He uttered.

You turned around to face him as you entered the library. "If you don't want to, we can just turn around. I'm just a little curious though." You don't know why, but you reached out and touched his suspenders, feeling the smooth fabric glide against your fingers. He just looked so dapper.

He didn't seem to notice as he pointed upwards to the orange garland leading to the far-left corner of the library. "Let's check it out."
