chapter sixty three: indian leafwing

Later that evening, after you drive toward the airport and stop for the night, you and Suna sit side by side on a bench in the middle of a pitch-black park.

A few of the others ran towards the broken-down playground to goof off for a little while. You can hear their laughter and screaming from far away, but you much rather prefer to sit comfortably beside Suna than join them.

Admittedly, you are worried about what tomorrow is to bring. You're not sure you could even smile at a time like this.

"You alright?" Suna asks as he passes you the spiked seltzer the two of you have been sharing for the past few minutes. It's not cold, but still comforting for the nerves.

He had brought Kuroo's old radio outside, too, which you can hear playing again in the background. It's quite an odd song to be playing in the middle of winter, but you don't mind it.

Hot town, summer in the city

Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty

Been down, isn't it a pity?

Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city

"I'll be fine," you smile softly at him. Even now, after all this time you've been with him since the outage, it still feels so refreshing to see his face. You never thought you would again. "You know, once we get to the airport."

"Don't get your hopes too high up. I doubt there will be anyone just sitting around with a plane waiting for us to show up," he says, bringing you back down to reality.

"I know," you nod as you take another sip of the seltzer. "And if there isn't someone just waiting for us there, it'll be fine that way, too."

"Yeah?" he responds as you hand the seltzer back to him. "You like this screwed up world?"

"It's not the world that I like," you smile softly.

All around, people looking half dead

Walkin' on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head

"Coulda fooled me," he smirks as he puts the seltzer on the cold ground. "I mean, you do always look a little bit happy. At least when I'm around."

"I guess you figured out my secret then," you chuckle as you turn your body to face him. "What can I say? I'm head over heels for a guy who fucks me while I'm picking up a prescription."

"I'm sure you do," he responds smugly as he lifts his hand to your cheek. And before you know it, your whole body fills up with warmth as he kisses you.

But at night it's a different world

Go out and find a girl

Come on, come on and dance all night
