chapter thirty seven: parnassius

Time quickly flies by after you meet Oikawa. Nobody ever solved the case of the murder of Tsukishima, but there have been no other incidents. Originally, some members of your group believed that it was Kuroo, but you really don't believe that's the case. Whatever it is, you seem to be safe for now. Not to mention that Oikawa's still around, meaning his gun is still in your possession.

Eventually, everybody forgets about the murder, too. The weather gets a lot colder and a tall fence surrounds your self-proclaimed property. Tents have been converted into small huts reinforced with metal siding panels and anything else you could find. You've all really settled into your homes, and though it's definitely strange at times, you're quite content with your life.

There's only one problem- you haven't been able to get much sleep. You know that every time you close your eyes, you'll think of one of two things: Tsukishima or Kuroo. Unlike most of the others, you just haven't been able to get past either of the two events and they haunt you like ghosts every single day.

When you told Bokuto on the first freezing day of the season about your nightmares, he had offered to spend the night in your apocalypse-style home. You had accepted and allowed him to share your mattress. Though nothing really tea worthy happened, you did wake up with his arms wrapped around you, holding you tight to his chest, but you just blamed it on the weather.

However, ever since that night, Bokuto's stayed with you. You quite enjoy his company and spending time alone with him, and so, eventually, he moves all his stuff in with yours. The day he does, Alisa and Yachi ask you if you feel comfortable with him moving in despite the unsolved murder case.

"Honestly, I don't really know what happened that day. None of us do. I think maybe it was wrong for all of us to accuse each other without any evidence at all. It was Tsukishima's gun we found with him today, not Osamu's or anybody else's. Whoever it was is obviously too much of a coward to step up and admit it so, no, I'm not scared anymore," you admit to them.

"Do you still think it was a murder?" Alisa asks you in a whisper.

"How can I say one way or the other," you shrug. "We'll be fine, I'm sure of it."

Later that night when it's finally just you and Bokuto in your small home together, he lays down and pulls you close to him. You smile as he places his large hand on your cheek and kisses you.

"God, you're so warm," you remark at his touch. "How is that even possible?"

"I don't know," he chuckles, "but come closer and I'll warm you up."

As you inch closer to him, your eyes wander down to his lips. By this point in time, you've kissed him more times than you can count but it never seems to get any further than that. It's like you have some weird unspoken rule where both of you just cut it off.

Whatever it may be, it doesn't stop Bokuto from still kissing you just like he does most nights. Of course his lips are warm and so unbelievably soft as they meet yours. And when his lips part and your tongue dances with his, your whole body lights up in flames.

Your hands roam his chest. Though it's absolutely freezing outside your four walls, he's already removed his shirt just like any other night. Your hands travel across his body, touching his muscles and taking in his body heat altogether.

As time passes, you begin to slide your hand further down his body. While he reaches under your shirt and grabs onto your breast, you sneak yours under his shorts. The tips of your fingers reach his cock, finally, for the first time, but before anything can go any further, you hear Kiyoko calling your name from outside.

"Shit," you mutter as Bokuto continues to kiss you. "I'm sorry. I'll be right back."

"Mm, don't go," he whispers as he kisses you once more. "Don't take too long."

"I won't," you smile as you pull back the covers and step out of bed. You quickly grab your sweatshirt and throw it over your head before stepping out into the cold.

Outside your little shelter, you see Tanaka, Nishinoya, and Kiyoko all standing together. "Hey," Kiyoko calls softly when she sees you step out.

"Is everything alright?" you ask as you look amongst the three of them.

"Um, well..." she says as she trails off. She's really never been the same since the miscarriage and it really breaks your heart to see her looking so lost in every conversation she attempts to uphold.

"We're leaving," Noya explains for her. "Like, for real."

"You're leaving?!" you repeat perhaps a bit too loudly because you can hear Bokuto scramble around the cabin. He then bursts open the door and stands beside you.

"You're all going?" he then asks worriedly.

"Yeah," Tanaka nods quietly. "We're sorry to go like this but we didn't want to say anything to the others..."

"'Cause if we did that, they might change our minds," Noya finishes. "But Kiyoko wanted to say goodbye to you, Y/N."

As Bokuto begins to plead for the three of them to stay, you take Kiyoko by the hand and pull her off to the side. "Are you really leaving?" you ask disappointedly.

"We are," she tells you. "It's not because of you or anyone else... I just think it would be good for a change of scenery and to be alone for a little while, too. Please don't think poorly of me when I say this, but I need to go, Y/N. Every time I even look at the bus I feel sick to my stomach. Post-miscarriage depression is fucking killing me and I just need to get away. I'm so sorry."

"Don't be," you tell her as you throw your arms around her and pull her close to console her. "Just remember that none of this is your fault. You can't control these things. I want you to be happy, that's what matters. If you need to go then I want you to do what is best for you."

Kiyoko looks at you worriedly as she pulls away from the hug. "Are you sure?" she asks. "'Cause if you're mad please don't lie to me."

"I'm not lying," you chuckle as you wipe her watery eyes. "I love you, Kiyoko. I really hope you're able to recover soon, I'm sorry this isn't something I can heal with a few bandaids."

"Don't be," she says with an attempt to smile. "I'm so thankful for everything you've done for me."

"Don't say that just yet," you say in a cheery voice, hoping to pick up her spirits. "Let's go pack the three of you some food before your long journey, okay?"
