Tori was sitting in the library after a few hours of studying. She felt exhausted, and couldn't wait to finish. Alicia went back to the common room to get some sleep since she had been a total mess the entire day, leaving Tori to clean up the pile of books.
Fred and George were both in detention for their Halloween prank. Turns out, they did get caught. They had a month's detention, so Tori hardly got to see them at night. It stunk, but Tori had to manage. She got up and began putting away her book, "Hogwarts: A History" away when she bumped into someone.
"Oh, I'm sorry..." Tori began, turning around to meet the blue eyes before her. The boy only laughed lightly and picked up his books. "It's alright, I get pretty clumsy sometimes."
"I get what you mean," Tori replied, she eyed his uniform, which had the Hufflepuff crest on it. "Hogwarts: A History, huh?" The boy asked her once he got up from the floor. Tori sheepishly nodded, "Yeah, it's a brilliant book."
"One of the best. I'm Cedric by the way. Cedric Diggory." The boy stretched out his hand, which Tori shook. "Tori Silvers."
"Oh, my dad works in the ministry with yours. Well not with yours..."Cedric tilted his head to the side, racking his brain for thoughts. "What does your dad do?" Tori asked him. She had never heard of a Diggory before. Cedric answered proudly, "He works in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures."
"Oh, my dad works as in the Administrative Registration Department," Tori recalled the one day her father took her to his work. She had walked inside and found it rather boring. It was just filled with people and files of paper, telling you about more people.
What really caught Tori's eye was the Auror Office. It was messy and seemed fun. Each cubical had pictures of dark wizards and clues on how to find them. Unfortunately, Tori's father ushered her away and began to mutter how there was no need for Aurors and how they only got in the way.
Tori didn't really pick up on the rest, she was too busy being bored.
Tori blinked, realizing Cedric was still talking about his father and his job. Tori nodded, pretending like she had been listening to the entire time.
"It's cool, really. My dad gets to do in all kinds of adventures and see all these people." Cedric continued to talk, letting go of a book. Tori watched it fly up to its proper shelf before replying. "Have you ever gone with him?"
Cedric shook his head. "He says I'm too young, but maybe when I'm older. Then I'll go around helping people register dragons."
"That sure sounds like an adventure,"
There was a cough and a small "mhm" which caused both Cedric and Tori to turn around. Madam Pince was doing her nightly rounds and must have found them. She lowered her classes and gestured at the huge clock in the room. It read about five minutes till they had to get back to the common room.
"Oh god. We need to go." Tori gasped, knowing Erin was definitely going to have her head for being late. Cedric looked equally as panicked and paused, "It's alright, you can blame it on me if we get caught."
Tori gave him a small smile and shook her head. "Let's just go." He nodded and the two of them rushed out of the library, skidding down the hall. Cedric seemed to have thought the whole running against the clock was funny because he began to laugh.
They turned down another corridor and another. They were almost down the stairs when the clock struck curfew. Tori groaned, only making Cedric laugh again. "Is there something you find funny?" She put her hand on her hip, clearly not getting what was so hilarious to the young Hufflepuff.
"No, I never do stuff like this. I'm never late or miss curfew. You like to get me in all sorts of trouble, huh?" He gave her a cheeky grin and Tori scowled at the second year. She opened her mouth to reply but there was a sound of footsteps at the end of the hallway. Tori panicked, grabbing Cedric's hand and yanking him up the stairwell.
Both of them stuck their heads out, praying it wasn't Filch and Ms. Norris. Luckily, their prayers were answered, and down the hallway came Fred and George. They must have been coming back from detention! Tori felt a huge way of relief swoop over her and she began to step out before Cedric grabbed her arm.
"They'll see us!" He whispered, but Tori nodded. "They're my friends, they won't do anything to get us in trouble." Cedric didn't look like he really believe her, but she must have been pretty convincing cause he followed her out. "Fred, George!"
Both the twins had turned around at the call of their names. Fred grinned brightly when he saw Tori, "What are you?-" He was cut off by Cedric following Tori as well. Fred's smile wavered, but he pretended to pay no attention to it.
"What are you guys doing?" George asked both of them, he shot a weird look to Tori and the Cedric. "We lost track of time in the library," Tori told him, "We're heading have to our common room now,"
Fred opened his mouth to respond but there was a meow at the end of the hallways. The four of them felt their heart drop as they turned and saw Ms. Norris staring at them. "What do we do?" Tori asked, Filch wasn't there yet, but he would be any minute now.
"Run!" Cedric told them, giving a small nudge to Tori. The four of them took off running in the opposite direction, hoping to flee Ms. Norris and the terror that she brought with her. They made their way down the hallway and to another stairway.
They stopped midway, panting from the run. Cedric turned to Tori, a smile on his face before gesturing to a doorway. "This is the fastest way for me, thanks for the adventure, Tori. Let's do again sometime." Tori grinned, "Hopefully something more within the rules," Cedric chuckled and turned, running down the steps as Tori followed the Twins up.
They ran up a few more flights of stairs before reaching the Fat Lady, who had a sleeping mask on and curlers in her hair. "Orion," Tori told the panting, panting. The Fat Lady lifted her mask to see the three first years. "Well, it's past curfew..." She mumbled to herself and swung open, revealing a very angry Erin and a tired Charlie.
"Where have you three been?" She demanded once the painting shut, Charlie sighed, getting off the red couch. "It was my fault," Tori began. "I was in the library and I lost track of time..."
"We asked Tori to wait for us after detention," Fred butted in.
"But good ol' Snape wouldn't let us go until his floor was clean. Like perfectly clean." George added. "So we had to come from the Dungeons to all the way up here." Both said it so perfectly in unison it was kind of scary.
Erin had seemed to calm down and Charlie took the lead on this one. "Next time, don't have a friend wait for you for so long." He pulled George into his arm. "Alright upstairs, everyone."
The trio did as they were told, Charlie and George took the lead with Erin going to sit on a yellow chair in the corner.
"Hey, Tori." It had seemed Fred waited for his brothers to leave before turning to the girl. "If you're not doing anything for the Christmas holiday, you should come stay over."
Tori was quiet for a moment. "I wouldn't want to intrude."
"No you wouldn't be, my mum wouldn't mind. I know it. Plus I have a younger sister who'd probably love you." Fred had told her about his family before. He had an older brother Bill, who graduated. Then Charlie, then it was him and George, and then he had his younger siblings Ron, who was nine, and Ginny, who was eight.
"I dunno Fred. The offers seem great, but I think I'm going to go home for Christmas." Fred looked at Tori nervously but quickly nodded. "Well, the offer still stands whenever. If you need to come over last minute, you're welcome too."
"Thanks, Fred," Tori smiled at the boy as she approached the girl's dormitory door. "Good night."
"Good night Tori."
