he had written down as best as he could, and took extra time written out the rest of the testimony, that was just full of lies at this point
'Ms. Orly! Why did you not tell the court about this from the very beginning!?'
apollo demanded, olga didn't say anything, and just stayed silent
"I thought I smelled a cover-up here... Well folks, it's time to throw back the covers!"
'Hmm... A full house is a very high-scoring hand. Not easy to make, in my experience.'
'That alone is enough to suspect less-than-scrupulous tactics'
apollo looked up at his mentor, ..not really understanding all of this
'Um... Mr. Gavin? What's a full house?'
payne over heard him and scoffed
'Lawyers these days... You don't know your poker?'
'I can't say this bodes well for your case... or career'
the judge commented, apollo blushed a bit red at being called out like that, he didn't poker so well, so sue him, geez..
"What is this, some kind of secret court poker ring!?"
kristoph held back a sigh as he explained what a full house was in poker
'...Justice. You know the terms "one pair", "two pair", and "three of a kind", yes?'
he had to think on that for a bit
'Uh, yeah! No problem! Two cards with the same number makes a pair, and three makes a three of a kind!'
'Good. Now picture a hand with one pair, and one three of a kind. That's a full house'
"Hmm... That doesn't sound very easy to make, does it"
payne then pointed at the crime photo
'You can see each player's hand in this photo.'
"Wow... They both have full houses!"
payen then smirked
'We forget, there's an easy way to make a full house... and go undefeated for seven years. You cheat'
the judge cleared his throat and interjected for two reasons, one, the move along the trial, and two, ...he could already see the rage building up the the defendant eye's
'Ahem. The defense may cross-examine the witness.'
"If he did cheat in the last hand, that still leaves one important question... Mr. Wright lost that hand. Who's ever heard of a professional con man losing when they cheat!?"
he read over at the testimony, ..he didn't understand how mr wright could figure things in five or less minuets, it took him 10 or even 20 sometimes, but regardless, he pressed her on her third statement, he had a feeling on it
'How was it "clear"?'
'Dah, well... the defendant... ...he played a fifth ace!'
she said
'A f-fifth ace!?'
apollo stuttered out
'I still remember both hands very well. Mr. Smith's hand has three aces... ...and Mr. Wright's two.'
payne flipped his hair smugly
'Obviously, cheating was afoot! Or perhaps I should say... a hand!'
kristoph then chimed in
'Your Honor... perhaps this can be added to the testimony? Without Mr. Payne's joke.'
the judge nodded
'Very well. The witness will add this detail to her testimony, please'
'"Mr. Smith's hand has three aces, and Mr. Wright's two. ...It is five aces in all."
apollo eyes' widen as he quickly took out the crime scene photo, and compared it with the testimony, ..he took an extra 5 minuets just to be sure
'It appears the witness is mistaken...'
'Miss... Taken? But my name-'
he cut her off
'Look, this piece of evidence clearly contradicts what you said in your testimony!'
he said, presenting the photo, the judge squinted his eyes at it
'That's... the photo of the chips, is it not?'
'Justice. Perhaps you ought to explain your point in a way that the judge can comprehend... In other words, use your finger to "point" out your point!'
kristoph suggested, the judge nodded in agreement
'Yes... Please point out the contradiction in this photo. What particular "point" contradicts the witness's testimony?'
apollo nodded as he pointed right at the victims cards
'Ms. Orly, in your testimony, you made the following claim: "Mr. Smith's hand has three aces"... But as you can clearly see, the victim's hand only held two aces!'
orly cried out in shock as she caught the red lobster into her bowl, just then payne interjected
'OJBECTION!!'
'Well... Well maybe the witness was simply confused! Perhaps it was the defendant's hand that held the third ace in question...'
he weakly argued, however, apollo quickly argued back more strongly
'Take another look at the evidence! As you can see, the defendant also had two aces in his hand. Where's this fifth ace? I see cheating alright, and it's going on right here in this courtroom!'
'Two aces in each player's hand does make four aces total. Hardly proof of cheating...'
the judge agreed, seeing the defenses point of view
'Wait! Please! It is true... I have seen it! The fifth ace! There was cheating, I swear to you.'
olga pleded, apollo got the senes she wasn't lying
"That's odd... She must be lying, yet she's the most sincere I've seen her all day."
kristoph took notice of his reaction, and nodded his head'
'You're right to trust your instincts...'
'Mr. Gavin?'
'Who knows what lies in store for us in the trial ahead... Your Honor, if I may. I have a suggestion...'
he asked, the judge looked down at him
'What might that be, Mr. Gavin?'
'If you don't mind... ...perhaps we might examine the actual cards?'
'the cards?'
the judge repeated, not sure on what he meant, kristoph then turned his head the the prosecutor
'Mr. Payne.'
he winced a bit
'urk!, yes?'
'The players' hands that night were set aside as evidence, were they not? The defense would like to request that the cards be shown to the court'
the judge nodded
'Very well, the prosecution will submit this evidence! Which will you examine?, The victim's cards... or the defendant's cards?'
apollo thought on this carefully, ...he had a feeling of the victims hand
'The defense requests time to examine Mr. Smith's cards.'
'Very well. Mr. Payne, if you would...'
payne started to sweat a little, very nervous on how this could turn out

kristoph ordered, apollo nodded nervously

he went through each card carefully, ..while going threw the card hand, ...he found one card out of place
"Wh-What...!?"
he immediately called out for the court's attention
'our Honor! Look at this! One of the victim's cards... The back is a different color!'
'Eh...? Ehhhhhh!?'
payne stuttered out, seeing the own card with his ver eyes, ...he was careless?!, him?!
'Th-That's impossible! But I put that card in Wright's hand... Ack!'
she quickly covered her mouth, kristoph looked over at her
'...What was that, Ms. Orly?'
she quickly shook her head, but it was already to late
'No... Ny-Nyet! Er, I merely said, eh... Dah, I have, eek!'
kristoph then turned to the judge
'your honer'
'M-Mr. Gavin, yes?'
'Tell me, what is the easiest way to cheat at poker?'
he asked, the judge didn't really understand where he was going with this
'To... cheat?'
he answered the question
'I'll tell you. One merely needs a friend, a "comrade", shall we say... The dealer!'
'Ah... Ah!'
the judge now finally understood, as did apollo
'Wait, so you mean... This witness... Ms. Orly...'
'She's the cheater. A professional, I'd wager'
olga started to shake and sweat nervously, as she cried out in alarm, the court started to go wild, but soon quited down after the judge started to bang his gavel
'Order! Order!!!'
apollo breathed in and out slowly
"Focus, Justice! Time to take advantage of her! ...I mean, of her mistake!"
'Your Honor! Please recall the testimony we just heard!, "That's impossible! But I put that card in Wright's hand!!" ...Ergo! Ms. Olga Orly conspired to cheat, not with my client... ...but with the victim, Mr. Shadi Smith!'
olga started to tremble at being called out in the witness stand
'Not only did she cheat, she cheated poorly! Therefore! It's not hard to imagine an altercation between her and the victim...'
payne started losing it too, he was sweating bullets, all his smugness gone completely

the judge then closed his eyes
'Hmm... Mr. Justice?'
'Your Honor!'
apollo straightened up his back as he looked up at the judge to look more professional
'It seems you've presented a new possibility to the court. One suggesting a connection between the witness and the victim, Mr. Smith.'
'And that means...!?'
'The court cannot pronounce a verdict for the defendant at this time!'
payne however, tried to interject, he was so close to finally beating mr wright, he couldn't pass up this chance, but it was already to late
'Nnk...! What!?'
"I did it! I held out!"
'I see no point in prolonging the trial this day. The prosecution will need to make further inquiries--'
'OBJECTION!!
