The diner flagged down the waitress with a frantic hand.
"Excuse me, there's a chicken bone in my meal."
The waitress glared at him.
"Afraid of a chicken bone? Bones are the reminders of the constant struggle against death that we engage in every day! A struggle that all of us are fated to someday lose! Or did you think chicken comes from a store?"
"But I ordered the fish..." he said, and her civility returned.
"Oh, dear. I'm terribly sorry sir, I'll get that fixed for you right away," she said, and whisked his plate away to the kitchen.
