The humans used the giants as shock troops. This suited both armies quite well, as the humans considered the giants too stupid to know they were being used as cannon fodder, and the giants thought the humans too cowardly to fight their foes directly.
This fragile alliance held all through the campaign against the ice dragons. It wasn't until the dragons were driven off that the problems began. Having taken possession of the dragons' mountain fortress, the giants felt no need to share the spoils.
The humans settled in for another siege, but the giants were patient as the stones.
