"It's very deep," He assured me as he showed me the painting. A praying mantis in a regency dress, standing casually over the headless corpse of, presumably, a male praying mantis in a corresponding coat.
"I, um, can see that. Did you paint it yourself?" I asked, careful to seem appreciative of the art.
"No, my friend did it, but I had to buy the original. It just, like, captures the difference between men and women so perfectly, you know?"
"Uh huh," I said. "I'm just going to powder my nose." So much for another blind date, I told myself.
